Imagine if we kept Jeremy Lin
If we were to take a risk on Jeremy Lin, and develop him as our PG. He clearly is a better facilitator than Goran. And although Lowry is a more physical strength pg, Jeremy Lin IMO, is a better assist guy.
Our franchise value would triple. And the Rockets would be selling out seats.
And he would attract superstars to the team. He proved that he didn't need superstars to facilitate a team well.
Knicks were without Amare and Melo for a stretch and the Knicks kept on winning.. 6 game win streak.
Just saying.. U can say "you didn't see this coming " but man, looking at how many raw scrub players we taken a gamble on----> "jordan hill, hashim thabit, Terence williams, jonny flynn." we should've taken a chance on Jeremy instead of these guys who are producing almost 0 stats per game. We've taken a chance on a bunch of 2008 draft busts.
But in no way do I blame rockets. Just saying management missed a big opportunity...

Re: Imagine if we kept Jeremy Lin
And I think that the view that Jeremy Lin came from nowhere to become as good as he is now is false..
He must've shown some ability in practice, the coaches just didn't give him the benefit of the doubt.
Plus he was a great HS, College player. Broke records. Just because he's asian/chinese, they didn't give him the benefit of the doubt.
Ive seen worst white players who keep getting opportunity after opportunity..and remain one trick ponies, with less skill than jeremy.
Someone who averages 15 pts and 8 assists a game in the NBA does not come out of nowhere.....It's the scout's and coach fault to not recognize his ability

Re: Imagine if we kept Jeremy Lin
if the gasol trade went through he might've been our backup pg. and if he busted out like he did in new york, anything we lose from herky-jerky-bones-rattling kevin martin we more than make up for with jeremy lin
i wouldnt want lowry to start at sg, he's too short for heavy minutes at the 2, but a 3man rotation at the guards with lowry/lee/lin (THREE **** L'S N**GA!!!! ALL LAST NAMES! **** YOU DAVID STERN!!!!!!!!) ...who knows how devastating that would be. as if our opponents dont have a hard enough time dealing with a gasol/nene/hayes frontcourt trio, we have to be so obnoxious as to throw lowry/lee/lin at them too. on top of that we got parsons at the 3, so u can forget about that
dealing with a duo is tough (durant/westbrook), a trio is not fair (heat big 3), but 2 trio's? come on yall, everybody and their baby grandmama know the basketball gods would strike down anyone who even jokes about something like that. the universal powers would shift out of balance and hell will be frozen over. we gotta look past our team and the well being of everything around us. there'd be a nuclear apocalypse.

Re: Imagine if we kept Jeremy Lin
Well Im pretty sure he wouldn't have nearly the season/hype that he has now in Houston vs NY. Their team is built for a PG like him. In our system he would fail. We don't have Tyson chandler, amare here. We have some athletic guards but that's the only thing we have that's comparable to NY. Would u play him with 3 assist, 8 points and 6-7 TOs a game? That's not much better than Goran starting I bet.
Also he plays in the east. Below 500 teams make it to the playoffs in the East. Enough said and sure the Knicks beat the mavs, lakers , they still play in the east. Not saying he's not a solid player, but would I like him on our team? Yes bc of sales, no from a bball standpoint.

I dont know why people blame Morey for the releasing of Lin. The blame should be placed on Donut looking D Stern. Im sure Lin would have out played Flynn to be our back up PG after the Gasol trade would have falling trough.

In reality with no Gasol trade happening and with our current roster, its very possible that the hype never happens if he stays in houston. Think about the perfect storm that happened in new york that allowed Lin to have some playing time. That's not the case in houston. Lowry has been healthy the whole season and Dragic has been healthy the whole season. We have a solid point guard rotation between the 2... its very likely Lin never sees major minutes to this point.

nah you guys are underrating jeremy lin. Yeah knicks had Tyson in that stretch, but who else did they have? a bunch of average bums who played bad before jeremy came. There's no way to measure how well he would've clicked with Scola, Dalembert, and Patterson. Face it, Lowry is not that good at the pick and roll. He's more of a power PG. Jeremy Lin is more of a finesse pg like a steve nash. Even Steve Novak played his best basketball in his 4 years in the NBA with LIN as the PG. And even jared freaking jeffries played well with Lin.. You can't convince me that Lin could not play better pick and roll with Scola or Dale.
And pocket rockets, I disagree with you. Jeremy lin would benefit us in a basketball standpoint. He clearly is better than Goran Dragic. Dragic is sometimes solid, but his pg play looks lackadaisical on the court sometimes. dragic is more of a scoring pg. Lin is more of a complete player. I hadn't seen any pg playing as well as Lin has during the stretch of wins.

Re: Imagine if we kept Jeremy Lin
Williams takes him serious and he is ineffective and the Miami plays him and shuts him down, not sure who had guarded. Lin is average which is not bad because every GM in the league in the draft he was in passes on him once and sometimes twice. Or wait was he drafted? And then he was cut by GS and then by Houston and more teams passed on him. Then he goes to NYK and is about to get cut again but injuries allows him to see the floor and he comes out in a storm. A large part is he plays for Pringles and then the teams he has played. Yes a lot of GMs missed on him because he is actually fairly good player but I do not think he is the MVP type talent he is playing like.
Whats done is done just move on this **** is just annoying. I just hate that toad looking **** Stern. Just tired of this. Anyways it is not like we missed on a once in a lifetime talent. Really do not think we would be any better then we are now.

Re: Imagine if we kept Jeremy Lin
I'm soooooo tired of hearing this what if scenarios as far as lin is concerned. First of all Lowry is better than Lin, period. Lin wouldn't have started on our squad, this isn't NY and he wouldn't have had the freedom to do what he does in our system. D'antoni let him take as many shots as he wanted because no one else was out there. I'm also sick of hearing about how good he was in high school, college, etc. So what, you know how many good players I played against in high school that barely got D-1 scholarships? You know how many GREAT players there are in college that don't sniff the league? Lin was a surprise. I'm sorry but the entire league isn't wrong. NO ONE thought he would be this good, not his HIGH SCHOOL COACH, not the college scouts, and not the nba coaches/scouts. I'm glad he's getting all of the praise because he deserves it and he worked hard to get where he is, but things would not be even close to the way they are in NY if he played for Houston

Steve Novak is playing his best basketball because of MIKE D'ANTONI. Don't act like he's taking passes off the pick and roll and slashing to the hoop with lin. Everyone knows novak is in the league for one reason, he's a shooter and that makes him perfect for D'ANTONI'S system.

that's bogus. That has something to do with it , but check Novak's stats before Lin started. Probably a big fat zero .

Re: Imagine if we kept Jeremy Lin
Yeah I'm imagining.
As the other guy who identifies himself as chinese, let me clue you in on something.
Your motivations are transparent. I understand people want to back an underdog, especially if the underdog kinda sorta looks like him. But you are crying over spilt lemonade. Houston's point guard rotation was set. Lowry does everything Lin does, but better, in a better division with higher quality opponents in his position night in and night out. And here's another thing, you don't get a backup that is a lesser clone than your starter. You want someone who will change up the pace, play a different style, give you a different set of tools to go with. Variety in rotation is essential especially if a particular game plan isn't working and you have to run something else that the starter is no good at. If you have an ace point guard to could run the pick and roll, you don't have to have two. Get a backup that could do some of the things your starter isn't as good at.
Lin's success came at the perfect storm where a) D'Antoni was desperate and gave him latitude, b) Knicks had no other point guard, c) Amare and Melo were out so Lin could wave people off and do whatever he wanted, d) the teams the knicks were playing in that stretch were at best, lacking consistency.
Anyone who says Lin was a great high school player needs to do some more research. He blew up his senior year, but like admissions to college for every buddy, you got to blow up before your senior year if you want scholarships. His HS coach said he was a bad practice player and didn't even approach him for individual workouts until after his freshmen season in Harvard. His parents didn't do a good job pushing him out there in the limelight either. His mom use to tell his HS coach he couldn't play if his grades were not A- or above. Lin made his own dvd to be sent to college programs. Where were his parents involved? I don't see a lot of his high school tapes on youtube. He did the AAU circuit from 10 until he was 17 and no one recruited him. In this day and age, he didn't get recruited over lack of coverage, it's because he got much better latter on after he got away from highschool and AAU.
Even if you broke records in Harvard, your non-conference opponents are not amazing, and your conference play has little to no coverage in the outside media. If it weren't for youtube, nobody would've heard of him.
He has a nuanced game. So did Steve Nash. Earl Monroe played Division II ball. Frigging Calvin Murphy played in Niagara and got drafted in the second round... Lots of people blow up year after year after being overlooked earlier in their lives.
In America, you are suppose to pretend that race doesn't matter. And the only way to make that actually happen is to put your head down, grind away and come away successful. Begging the race question is counter productive. It makes you look whiney. I don't understand when whiney became a masculine american attribute, but it sure as hell ain't Chinese.

I applaud you for knowing Jeremy Lin's life story. Even to the last detail. Man you might be his biggest fan. But I have to disagree. With all the one trick ponies out there in the nba that are given an opportunity because they're white. And you see someone who averages 15 and 8 at the hardest league in the world. It begs the question. How many times he wasn't given the benefit of the doubt during practice. And the race question is true and real. If you actually did your research "hard enough" you'd actually see Jeremy Lin make reference to this. How he wasn't given the benefit of the doubt in alot of times... and how he was overlooked. Plus he did speak about racism, but never used it as an excuse. Which i applaud him for.spolgar wrote:Yeah I'm imagining.

Anyone propping Novak up needs to look at Quentin Richardson playing with D'Antoni and after. Pick and Roll setups with options to kick to the wing for a deep three ran proficiently makes plenty a 3-point specialist happy.
