Morey confirmed in an interview earlier today that Donatas Motiejunas will be joining the Rockets next season!

The era of the Lithuanian is upon us!

I don't see a future with Scola now.

I won't be shocked if he does a D-League stint; but I get the feeling that Morey is higher on this guy than most of his other draft picks.

Now I want to know when Llull might come over.

sf: parsons, morris, budinger
pf: scola, patterson, motiejunas
c: dalembert, motiejunas, camby
pg: lowry, dragic???
sg: martin, lee???,

I have a feeling we'll only be able to re-sign Lee or Dragic but not both.

Hopefully we use our draft picks on guards:
Austin Rivers
Kendall Marshall

we lost our pick to NJ if we made the playoff
Dallas pick from Lakers is top 20 protected
NY pick is top 5 protected
our pick is lottery protected

his personality mirrors chandler's and chase's, those three will gel instantly.

also his favorite player is scola, so he should get some lessons from him while he's there.

If I ever run into Budinger at my volleyball club, I'm going to stuff a spike down his gullet and buy him a beer.

as a euro, i can tell you that motiejunas will dominate the league. many has been touted as the next nowitzki or the next gasol, but i can assure you he will at least be a new scola. european bball has really improved in the previous years, and for instance ricky rubio, who was an average player in the euroleague is (was) dominating the nba. motiejunas should be given the chance to play in our not-very-deep team, and he will probably be a great capture.

if morey doesn't do something idiotic, motie will shine in the nba. but i'm pretty sure morey will **** things up. for sure.

it's about the rockets collecting players from the 09 draft.. at one point i think they had like 4 of them.

Hey Folie a deux - first off welcome to our little board.

What do you think of Sergio Llull?

I have been watching Llull for a long time, he obviously is a great player but I don't think he's one of the European people who can change the NBA. Alexey Shved from CSKA is a huge talent, and if he tries to get in the draft he can have an amazing career. Another person that can have a great career is Furkan Aldemir, a Turkish center from Galatasaray, who is really young but plays professionally at the top tier of Europe (euroleague).

NBA limits itself to players from teams that has been successful in the NCAA tournament (the UConn team with Gordon, Okafor, Villanueva etc.), but there are some great talent that are only a good scouting team away from teams. Spurs did this for a while, and you see the results, the greatest late second round picks of all time: Tony Parker, Ginobili, Scola.

Thanks for the insight.

I think what we are looking for in Llull is just to be a very good backup to Lowry and a spot starter if need be. I'm hoping that he'll meet and exceed those expectations.

I think that the Rockets have been doing a much better job of scouting international ball. I know that Morey spends quite a bit of time in Europe going to various games (including some teams I have never heard of...and I pay attention to Euro Ball! ). If you are going to follow another team's attitude towards Europe and South America it should be the Spurs

Jonas Valanciunas

I like to watch euro games available on youtube to check out the talent. After seeing a number of games and clips of both Motiejunas and Valanciunas, I'd have to say I'm more impressed with Motiejunas. But the Rockets have drafted another player who looks like he'd do well in the NBA in Llull. Llull looks like a faster Steve Nash. But Motiejunas is someone who could score inside and outside plus play adequate defense. If the Rockets can keep Dragic and the other players stay healthy, they could make waves next year.

I think Valanciunas could be a legendary euroleague player, but except Sabonis, European centers never became all-star quality players in the NBA, so he will be a bust.

European guards started doing great with the changing bball in the nba, but there is a long way to go before European centers can adapt too.

.

Divac was an all star once.
Zydrunas was an all star twice.
Pau? Dirk? Marc?

Dirk and Pau were amazing power forwards, not centers. Pau's brother Marc was never an elite center, but a good one. Divac is the only good center to me, because Ilgauskas was just said to be elite because the NBA lacked centers a few years ago. (actually it still does, Bynum for the starting 5?)

Divac was a good European center, but I don't think Jonas and Divac are even similar. So... Jonas can have some impact on his potential team (can't remember what it is), but he will never be a star unfortunately. Only if he stayed in Europe though, things would have changed for him.
