Lee will be back

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Tue Apr 3, 2012 8:41 pm

Clutch tweeted a quote from Daryl Morey stating: "Courtney Lee is a restricted free agent, so he'll be back."

This looks to be shaping up just like Lowry's RFA offseason.

He also stated that they want Goran back, and are going to do whatever it takes to bring him back; but points out that he is unrestricted so ultimately it will be up to him.

Sounds like Morey is marking his territory

As much as I love both of them one of them is going to have to go unless we move martin. We need that cap flexibility just incase we can land a big time player and I don't see it happening this off-season. I don't want morey to panic and eat up our space signing "good" players when we need a great one.

same here, he just has to get his confidence together but having someone who can shoot and is a great defender>>>>>>>>>> one dimentional k-mart. Lee's game still has room for improvement, the entire league knows what you get from martin.

I can live with losing Goran since we have Lowry and Llul plans on coming over to America.

rocketseagles07,
Lee has a Cap Hold of $8mil. Unless the team renounces his rights,he's on the Cap til he he signs elsewhere and the Rockets don't match. If Courtney signs a deal starting at $7mil,it will actually ADD a million dollars to the Rockets Cap room.

Dude - you don't see a parallel between this and what he started saying about Lowry around this time?

Im tired of us "clearing" cap space or acquiring "assets" to try to get a Superstar. As muchas I would like to see Dwight or Dwill in Houston, ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! We are not going to get them. So we need to stop trying. Im tired of the Rockets going for the homerun and settling for the strikeout. Thats why we won't be a serious contender. Instead, I would like to see us focusing on Allstar type players who dont give a monkeys ass where they play. I would love to see us go after players like Roy Hibbert, Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, or make trades for guys like Danny Granger, Andre Iggypop, Monta Ellis, etc. I believe if we can aquire a couple of these guys, our chances will improve much more than we are at now. This is just my opinion though....... :dontknow:

we are gonna have to move martin first before thinking about the possibility of re-signing goran...just the way money works...if we can move martin who is expiring, so likely, i have confidence we will offer goran a competitive offer...question is if he will leave us for more playing time elsewhere.

False, we have plenty of cap room.

if that is the case, then we can take our time during next season to trade martin in order to get the best offer. also, i would make it a priority to re-sign goran first then since lee is restricted and worry about martin during the season. how much cap space do we have going into next season cause if we can get howard, he obviously would get max?

If the salary cap is @ 58 million again we will have 28 million to spend. Thats w/ camby, dragic, dally(team option), Chase(team option), Pat(team option), and Courtney Lee(qualifying offer of 3,221,933) of the books for the various reasons listed above

Of course we do but that doesn't mean we want to spend it all putting the same team on the floor as this year and add one decent player....

With Camby, Lee and Dragic free agents, assuming we pick up Dalembert, and sign Montiejounas and our 2012 pick, we have about 14 million dollars.

We will match whatever Lee gets (probably MLE), who knows with Dragic (probably MLE to 9 mil), and Camby likely getting 1-3.

Uhh... you guys realize that you don't need cap room to sign your own players?

We have Dragic's & Lee's bird rights, which means we can sign them to pretty much whatever we want.

Not sure where that $14M figure is coming from either. I'm guessing you didn't include cap holds(?).

The amount of cap space we will have hinges on a lot of variables (# of draft picks, non-/partially-guaranteed contract decision, [non-]renoucing of cap holds and of course trades).
