Offseason

We're not landing Dwight or DWill, so I say go after either Roy Hibbert or Al Jefferson, pursue Josh Smith and give them what they want except Lowry and Parsons. Attempt to aquire OJ Mayo from the Grizz (Im sure we can make a better offer than Indiana's Josh McRoberts). Attempt to resign either Courtney Lee and Goran Dragic. Draft Austin Rivers WITH THE 14TH PICK AGAIN. Id be satisfied with this team.

C Hibbert or Jefferson.....Camby
PF Josh Smith........Montiwatever
SF Chandler Parsons......Morris???
SG OJ Mayo.....Austin Rivers, Courtney Lee???
PG Kyle Lowry........Sergio Llull, Goran Dragic???

I also would like players like Danny Granger, Andre Iggypop, Tyreke Evans, and Monta Ellis.
Im tired of goin after Superstars that dont wanna play here. I want to go after All Stars and build a legit REALISTIC contender. Im tired of being an average team not good enough to compete and not bad enough to suck. :noway: .........just throwing my two cents.

The only thing is no one wants to play here...except maybe Josh smith. There's no way we keep Lowry and dragic so I'm betting goran goes elsewhere. Wed have to really overpay hibbert for Indy not to match. Same with oj mayo.

Jefferson is a black hole, Dragic is better than Mayo, and we'd have to really overpay to get Hibbert. These would all be lateral moves that would still leave us in mediocrity.

Besides Mayo I basically agree with everything you said. Mayo is going to be the next free agent signing to dissapoint, even though he's playing better now he's NOTHING close to the player he was supposed to be. I'd love to get hibbert or smith but I don't see them going anywhere(especially hibbert). I like the rivers pick as well, am I completely sold on him, HELL NO. But when you look @ his potential he's worth the gamble. He needs to learn team ball(how you don't learn how to play team ball at duke boggles my mind) and grow up, but we have enough "pretty good" players and rivers has the potential to be more than that. Maybe I'm being naive but I do think we have a SLIGHT chance at d-will. He's from texas and I think people can see that our team would be a very good squad if we had 1 or 2 VERY good players. D-12=no chance, not a big enough market...

No one should be safe this off-season. Everyone should be on the table.

we wont get D-Ho nor D-Will
there aren't any good free agent out there worth overpaying
that's why i want this team to tank
get top 3 pick for once
i hate pick right in the middle
you are not going to get a superstar with #14 pick
you don't see Danny Granger, Michael Redd, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker every season

its not like a top pick even a #1 overall pick is guaranteed either.

to the OP: OJ mayo has shot 40% from the field the last couple seasons. he brings nothing to the team other than his jumpshot which is inefficient at. Id rather have Dragic or Lee starting at the 2. I would like Hibbert but it will take a lot of pry him away from Indy. He is one of the better 7+ footer in the league but he isn't a game changer, yet it would take close to the max if not the max to get him. Tyreke Evans and Monta Ellis would get us nowhere, i mean if you complain about Kevin Martin... same story with Tyreke and Monta, even though their games are different, their impact or lack there of is the same. Josh Smith is a good player, defensively and he is capable offensively. It's still nonetheless a lateral move.

Fans just have to accept the fact that we are going to be stuck at mediocrity after the Yao/tmac era. Everybody knew this, not one single fan didn't know this was going to happen but everybody is acting like they're surprised we are stuck in the middle. Everybody knew what was going to happen after Yao was forced to retire due to injuries. It will just take some luck. We could have the #1 overall pick and draft a bust, maybe a superstar comes at 14, stars align and a superstar wants to come to houston (last one probably not happening)... point is it takes time. The front office is still showing effort in being competitive, before the season, fans were thinking the rockets were in tank mode and didn't expect us to be in the playoff mix. It is what it is.

still better than the #14 pick we got
Patterson - career backup
Morris - career D-League All-Star

no question the higher the pick the more likely chance we get a future superstar. tanking just doesn't sit well with me. I don't want to tank a season just to end up with a high draft pick bust, then have to repeat tanking. Being a middle of the pack team is no fun either but as i said, it will just take luck.

It has to be one or the other. Rebuild or stay the path. Even if the Rockets made the playoffs I would all for tanking in 2013 unless they somehow found that dominate post player.

Well, if you miss the playoffs like you would coming into tonight's games, I played a mock lottery here:

http://espn.go.com/nba/lottery2012/mockdraft

And here was the results with the Rockets landing the #1 pick with a 0.5% chance:

depend which route you want to take

1. superstar+star: Duncan+Parker+Ginobili, Kobe+Gasol+Bynum
too bad you don't see superstar every year in the draft
very hard to trade for you either
these days these stars are too spoiled
i rather don't want them other than Durant and Rose (they are so good we have 0% chance getting them during their prime)

2. duo-superstars: LeBron+Wade (sorry Bosh you aint superstar), Durant+Westbrook
1 superstar is hard to get already, don't even think about 2

3. bunches of good consistent players: 2004 Pistons
it seems like this is the route we are taking
problem is we have good players but we don't have enough good consistent players

hmmm jwise you must be new to this Rockets fandom.

Everybody knows we're gonna get the 14th pick and probably draft some NBDL player...
I'm more excited about our 2nd round pick. Thats where Rockets get their value!!!!!

smh F*ck this team!

I agree, but no moves have really been made in either direction. It appears that Alexander has told Morey to keep the nucleus of this team together, in the hope we can land a Superstar. To date, this hasn't worked. I get the feeling that the general consensus amongst fans, is that we should gut, tank, and re-build.

I agree with you as well Mr. E, that no one should be untouchable. (Well Maybe except for Lowry, Dragic, and Parsons.)
