As a hornet fan I'd love to see us sign Dragic to replac Jack, so im curious what kind of contract do you think the hornets would have to throw at him for the rockets not to match?

Hornets need to save their money for Eric Gordon and Carl Landry.
Jarrett Jack is signed for one more season and he had a good year except for missing 21 games.
Vasquez is a decent backup point guard.

Hornets have two top 10 picks in the draft. Probably will get Kidd-Gilchrist to start at SF and Tyler Zeller to replace Chris Kaman.

hornets only have 30+ million committed in salaries next year.. Theyll resign Gordon and hopefully be able to sign Dragic and Batum both for hopefully under 10 million each.. Then hopefully we draft Drummon and Sullinger in the draft, giving us solid depth in the front court.

If Dragic goes for under 10 million then I'm pretty sure he'll be back here in Houston. The Rockets are going to make a big push to retain him, and many teams are going to look to acquire him. You won't be getting this guy at a discounted rate.

I think most of of believe Lowry will get traded.

I don't see Dragic getting more than $11M personally. Somewhere between $8-11M. Hopefully closer to 8, but that's probably more wishful than realistic thinking. I do think Dragic will stay though.

How the hell does anyone here think Dragic is getting TEN MILLION?

I see him maxing at 6-8. Anyone offering him these 9-11 numbers you guys are throwing around would have to be clinical. You realize that 11m is 2/11 of the whole team's cap space, right? He's NOT a first or second option, (probably not even a third option) he's not a big, and he's 26 years old.

Unrestricted FA PGs
-------------------------
Devin Harris, Utah Jazz – $8.5 million – Unrestricted
Jose Calderon, Toronto Raptors – $10.6 million – Unrestricted
Jarrett Jack, New Orleans Hornets – $5.4 million – Unrestricted
Will Bynum, Detroit Pistons – $3.3 million – Unrestricted
Jeremy Pargo, Memphis Grizzlies – $1.0 million – Unrestricted*
Earl Watson, Utah Jazz – $2.0 million – Unrestricted
Sebastian Telfair, Phoenix Suns – $1.6 million – Unrestricted
Daniel Gibson, Cleveland Cavaliers – $4.8 million – Unrestricted
C.J. Watson, Chicago Bulls – $3.2 million – Unrestricted
Shaun Livingston, Milwaukee Bucks – $3.5 million – Unrestricted
Shelvin Mack, Washington Wizards – $0.8 million – Unrestricted*
Andrew Goudelock, L.A. Lakers – $0.8 million – Unrestricted*
Monta Ellis, Milwaukee Bucks – $11.0 million – Early Termination Option ($11.0 million)

Is he better than Harris or Calderon? They're both intermittently seen as bad contracts, I believe - imo Harris is ok, overpaid, and not as good as Dragic; and Calderon is a beast who has been significantly better than Dragic in the past (and would still be awesome to have if he wasn't 31).

And Ellis can score!!!

Open market, with a lot of teams in need of a point guard and plenty of cap room to spend.

Dragic is better than both of those guys without question. Calderon isn't awesome by any means. He's a terrible defender and only has one speed (neutral) on offense.
He's a below average starter at this point at best.

Is $10-11M/year more than what Dragic is should be getting? Yes. But you better be ready to pay him that much or you'll lose him for nothing.

I'm confused. Where dod you get this list?
Jack, Harris, Calderon, Bynum, Pargo and Eart Watson are all signed for next season.
Gibson, Livingston, CJ Watson and Goudelock are team option guys and not likely to be FA's either.
Monta Ellis is signed next year and has a player option the year after that. So he's def not a UFA.
The only two on your list who are UFAs are Shelvin Mack and Sebastian Telfair

UFA PG's this summer:
Deron Wiliams
Steve Nash
Jeremy Lin
Aaron Brooks
Goran Dragic
Raymond Felton
Kirk Hinrich
Chauncey Billups
John Lucas III
Ben Triple Double Uzoh
Jason Kidd
Jason Not Really a PG Terry
Andre Really is a PG Miller
Nate Should be a PG Robinson
Ishmael Smith
Baron Needs to Retire Davis
Mike Bibby
Jonny Flynn
Earl Boykins
Sebastian Telfair
Randy sometimes a PG Foye
Shelvin Mack
Gilbert Arenas

Yeaaaaaah no. That tends to drive up the price of big men, not somewhat-above-average point guards.
Seriously, he's NOT better than Kyle Lowry, why would someone offer him 175% of Kyle's salary? He's about on par with Mike Conley (7,305,786) and Lowry (5,750,000). Justify the extra 3 million dollars long term.

Yeah, but you're overlooking what he DOES do, which is shoot the hell out of the ball - .57 TS% is pretty killer. Anyway, I think Calderon has been awesome for years, but that's not a common sentiment. I accept that. My point was that most people think he's significantly overpaid. Harris too. Why should Dragic get that much?

Lowry is underpaid himself, so he's not too good an example. I actually think that Lowry is still better than Dragic FWIW.
Conley and Dragic are in the same ball park I guess. One could argue to Conley is slightly underpaid as well, which is interesting, as initially everybody was screaming how awful the deal he got was.

moofs wrote:Yeah, but you're overlooking what he DOES do, which is shoot the hell out of the ball - .57 TS% is pretty killer.

The last time Calderon shot close to that was two years ago. That's also pretty much when went from above average to below average.

moofs wrote: Why should Dragic get that much?

He probably shouldn't. But unlike Harris and Calderon, Dragic is improving, not declining and he's too good a player to lose for nothing. Whether or not he'll be good enough to justify a $10-11M contract is another question. You're giving him that much money under the believe he'll keep up or improve his stellar play of the 2nd half of this season.

Typically, 26-27 y/os have peaked, which is why I mentioned it.

For Calderon,
2010-11 29 .522
2011-12 30 .547
The dropoff followed the loss of Bosh, fwiw, but yeah. He's still somewhat above average, just not extremely good like he had been.

more than 5 million the rockets should not match

the rockets have a decent point guard making 6 million next two seasons theres no reason to pay another pg whos at the same level more money it just does not make any sense is simple math
is like if you have a $100 shoes in good shape and you want to buy another pair very similar for $150
keep the ones you have and buy a jacket, jeans or something you need more. we need a center is our weakest position

the rockets dont want to tank a rebuild thats fine but in order to have a great team you have to make very few mistakes and signing dragic for alot of money is one also courtney lee do not want

What if I already paid $50 dollars in advance (that I can't get back) for the $150 shoes and I can trade the $100 shoes for a $100 jacket?

What If I also got a good connection and can get the $150 shoes for $120? :)

(I prefer Lowry to Dragic also, I just think it would be crazy to let Dragic just walk for nothing)
