21 Players in camp. Dwight gone. What next?

Post#1 » by BobsBuddy » Wed Aug 15, 2012 1:43 pm

Bobcat fan here.. Just wondering with all the players and draft picks you amassed going after Dwight Howard, What are your plans to get down to 15 players? We have some large expiring contracts allowing you to go after free agents in 2013? (Trade Checker 6138902 Paterson,Fortson and Greg Smith for Carrolls expiring.) You dump 3 role players ,all with 1-2 year contracts ,for Carrolls expiring. :-?

Well Livingston & Williams contracts are not fully guaranteed so they are likely to be cut. Patterson could be had via trade but he will warrant at least a draft pick in return.

guaranteed contract will stay
then cut the one with the least amount of guaranteed money
the rest gone
simple
{that's how we cut Jeremy Lin last time :lol:}

stay for season open (unless trade happen)
1. Jeremy Lin
2. Jeremy Lamb
3. Royce White
4. Terrence Jones
5. Chandler Parsons
6. Omer Asik
7. Donatas Motiejunas
8. Patrick Patterson
9. Carlos Delfino
10. Kevin Martin
11. Marcus Morris
the rest need to fight for roster spot

If you are after Patterson then the conversation begins with a draft pick, not an expiring.

This is not a dire situation for Houston. No need to move patterson just to move him.

As a bored Blazers fan, just throwing out crazy ideas.

The Blazers are probably facing some rebuilding in the near future. If thats the case, LaMarcus Aldridge may be more valuable to a team making a current play-off run. IF, IF, IF, the Blazers were willing to consider moving LMA and his very reasonable 3 year deal, what would the Rockets be willing to offer?

It seems like the Rockets spent all summer accumulating assets to make a run at Dwight-Mare. Aldridge has a very different skill set than Dwight, but next to Asik, he might actually be a very good fit.

Fortson, Simpson and Sean Williams will be cut for sure unless we use them as trade-fillers instead.

I very well could see the Rockets keep Greg Smith instead of Livingston and Brockman, even though the later are partially-/fully guaranteed, whereas Smith's guaranteed is really small.

Smith didn't really look too good at summer league, but I kinda think we ultimately keep him, with the final two roster spots then coming down to Forbes/Livingston/Machado/Brockman/J.Johnson. If I had to guess I'd say we'll keep Forbes and either Machado or Livingston, just to have a third PG on the the team.

Why would we trade places with the Blazers? We just got out of mediocrity why would get back int it?

yeah i just want the rockets to rebuild for the next 3+ years. if we keep our picks for next years draft, that would be 3 straight years of 2+ first round picks. we should take advantage of that, perfect rebuild boost.

exactly
if we still have Lowry, Dragic, Lee then i would do it
at least with LMA (minus Scola) we can be a playoff team
now we are FINALLY rebuilding!!!!
i'm not going back at it again

I say we keep Machado. I think Kevin Martin may be moved at the Trade Deadline. Sometimes teams know where they are going to be at, especially after the A/S Break. I'm sure there would be a contender somewhere that would look at taking on his services. (Isn't Martin a F/A at seasons end?)

Either way, we will have cap room for 2013 - 2014 season.

Just my opinion.
