Seriously, players/teams go to China, Europe, (Germany, Italy, France etc) Africa etc. Never had an NBA camp in Australia, hell they have had an NBA jam tour here twice, but that's about all.

Personally, I would love for the Rockets to come here, (A pipe dream to be sure.) but I would be just as happy for Bogut to bring the Warriors here, and for Patty Mills to bring San Antonio here. We have Arenas that can cater to the needs of a few NBA games here (Preseason of course.)

It would be just the thing to inject life into the NBL here in Australia.

The problem is what the NBA teams will get out of it.
A fair bit of cost to come out and play.
The NBL is low standard league. It only generated 3 players for the boomers.

Because there is such a limited interest in basketball here and it's a long way to travel it's probably not really worth the effort.
Which sucks because as an australian and a spurs fan it would be awesome to see the NBA come out here

It would be cool to see a 4-team tour of Australia and New Zealand during the preseason.

Why not make the preseason mean something? Expand the brand. Send the Rockets, Spurs, Warriors & Pacers down there for a couple of weeks to play in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Christchurch, Brisbane & Perth.

Then send other teams out in 4-team sets to other countries/regions.

Expand the Brand!!!

I think all teams should play preseasons games overseas theres not much of a reason to play them in the United States

What I say now may not be stomached by all here, but I'm going to say it anyway.

The NBA, calls winning the the finals, The World Championship.

That's pretty damn arrogant.

It's not. The NBA is the number one Basketball league in the world. I won't argue that. The NBA says it is a global game. And as I stated earlier, go's to Europe every offseason, to Africa as well. Far as I was aware, Australia is a significant land mass. Most of the parts of Europe the NBA goes to, would fit inside Australia. (Land mass speaking.) Basketball is the most participated in sport in our country. We may not be as great as some of these European countries, but if you go on a per capita basis, we finished 3rd in the medal count for the Olympics, (or there abouts.) We just don't have a large enough population here, so there is less chance of a "Superstar" player being generated.

I guess that is really my major sticking point. Calling the NBA a global sport is a lie. Basketball is a global sport, and not the NBA.

So get some teams out hear David Stern. Quick Stix.

It IS the world championship. The best players in the world, playing against one another. Basketball may be a global sport but the NBA is where the world championship is played. The Olympics is full of subpar players; and the 3 or 4 teams that are actually competitive are the ones with NBA players, so it is eliminated.

Because it's so far away, and there are few places to play. I don't mean to disparage the country, it's on my list of places to visit, but it's the truth.

If NBA teams fly to Beijing they can do games in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Tianjin, etc.

If NBA teams fly to London, they can easily do games in Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Hamburg, and Rome.

If NBA teams fly into Sydney, they can go to Melbourne.

That's not the point.

It is not the world championship, because the competition consists of clubs from exactly 2 countries.

It would be like saying the English premier league champion should call itself world champion because it is the best football league in the world.

Not true, Basketball is big in Perth WA, Brisbane and Townsville QLD, and Adelaide SA.

There are plenty of places they could play here.

How good would an open air game in the middle of a 90,000 plus stadium be? (MCG) Or even at Etihad Stadium. that seats 40,000 plus.

This is a very interesting idea - of course I chose to move to Toronto in January of this year, and would miss out at least I have the Raptors.....

It would be sort of cool to see the NBA Championship team take on the EuroLeague Champs. What about Baseball and Football (American) are the winners of the World Series and the Superbowl rightfully called World Champions?

And there in lies the problem. England is only a five or six hour plane ride from the East Coast, about the same as to the West Coast. But Australia is a fourteen hour flight (maybe more). Sure the NBA flys to China but China has a billion people. There is a lot of bang for the buck there. Although I guess the could follow up to tour of China with one of Australia but I doubt the players would want to be on the road that long.

We don't have the population to pack a stadium for NBA in NZ. Heck, we don't have any suitable sized stadiums for basketball that could house over 10,000 people. It would have to be Australia only.
