5 cuts on monday - Forbes, JJ, Brockman and two more

The Rockets are expected to officially waive Gary Forbes, Jon Brockman and JaJuan Johnson on Monday.
They still must make two more cuts.
http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2 ... d-johnson/i expected them to be cut. now after the trade we got 2 more players to cut. definitely lazar, but both cook and aldrich bring something useful to the team. cook is a borderline decent defensive/3pt wing, only good for spot minutes imo. only 2 sfs so he can be the third. aldrich has potential for a backup center. rather keep cole
actually 5 players getting cut monday
Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen
And just to be clear, Brockman, Forbes and Johnson to be "officially" waived on Monday, along with two others.
my final roster
lin / livingston / douglas / machado
harden / delfino / douglas
parsons / delfino / morris
patterson / jones / motie / morris / white
asik / smith / cole / motie
i know thats 16, at least 2 players going to the dleauge. leaves one roster spot open

2nd rounder that helped us get harden. JJ was just a filler, regardless.

locked
1. Asik
2. Patterson
3. Parsons
4. Harden
5. Lin
6. Jones
7. Motiejunas
8. Delfino
9. Morris
10. White
11. Douglas
maybe
12. Cook
13. Livingston
14. Aldrich
15. Hayward
cheapest contract
16. Smith
17. Machado
if no surprise Smith and Machado will be the two cutting
Aldrich and Hayward didn't really play much
i would actually like to cut Hayward and keep Smith
we have 4 players capable of playing point so no need to keep Machado around

10-Man Rotation
PG - J. Lin/S. Livingston
SG - J. Harden/D. Cook
SF - C. Parson/C. Delfino
PF - P. Patterson/M. Morris
C - O. Asik/C. Aldrich
That's what I would go with if I'm the Rockets right now.

And you would be completely wrong. Jones is in the rotation, Morris is a SF, and Cook and Aldrich won't be in it.
Running a normal 8-9 rotation:
Lin/Harden/Parsons/Patterson/Asik are starting. Delfino and Jones are definitely getting minutes, as well as one of Livingston/Douglas. I think it'll be Douglas, but you never know. Regardless, the other will be likely waived along with Hayward.
That leaves the last 1 to 1.5 man out of Motiejunas, Morris, and Smith. I don't expect White, Machado, Aldrich, or Cook to play any meaningful minutes.

no Jones? lol
don't be surprise to see him avg more than 24 mpg
mchale likes to use 9 men rotation
starters: Asik-Patterson-Parsons-Harden-Lin
bench: Jones-Delfino-Douglas
not sure who the 9th person is

got 4/5 right not that bad

. still, no true backup pg, thats one reason i wanted to keep all 4pgs. cutting smith on that dirt cheap contract would be stupid. worst case he's a 3rd stringer, that aint bad at all.
lin / douglas / machado
harden / delfino / cook / douglas
parsons / delfino / morris
patterson / jones / motie / morris / white
asik / smith / cole / motie
best part about that roster you ask me? kevin martin's name no where to be found

and ny is paying for douglas' contract this season

yea cutting dirt cheap contract is stupid and we did it last year to jeremy lin
i think smith right now is better backup center than aldrich
not sure why not keeping livingston
maybe because that would cost the team extra 2.5 million (i think only 1 million is guaranteed)
someone in CF calculate that we are now 2.5 million under the cap
maybe for another trade?

Kind of upset about Livingston, but he'll get an opportunity somewhere. Financially I guess it was a no-brainer.
I'm guessing that Motie, White, Smith and Machado will all spend some time with the Vipers to get playing time. Not all at the same time, but each will go there.
As for depth - hoping that Machado & Motie move up because of solid play. Can't wait to see how Patterson and Jones look!

i think mchale will have his normal 9-men rotation
you will see harden playing some pg min
starters: asik-patterson-parsons-harden-lin
bench: jones-delfino-douglas-motiejunas/white/morris (depend who impress mchale more in practice)

Yeah, I wish we'd kept him too. Probably for financial flexibility. Weird move though.

I think it's an okay move.
If your objective is the maximal of talent per dollar, cutting Livingston does not make sense. However, Livingston is probably wanting to have some consistent minutes either at the three or the one. He is good enough to do it too, but he wouldn't get it here. He'll have to fight Harden, Lin, Machado, Douglas for minutes at the point, and between Delfino and Parsons (maybe Cook) for minutes at the three. The lack of established low post presences to throw entry passes to means the Rockets will have to run a lot to make points.
Offensively, this takes away the parts of the half court game he is good at (awesome court vision, can throw accurate entry passes to cutters) and magnifies everything he is bad at (will probably break down over the course of his season because of running a lot on a bad knee, no shot to speak of beyond 15 feet, not a strong enough cutter). Defensively he was already in a bit of a pickle before he blew out his knee. Now he's got no chance against faster point guards in the west. Instead he'll probably have to defend the two or the three, which means the defensive schemes will have to adjust accordingly with this particular flavor of musical chairs. That's just too much work for a guy who is not going to play.
Livingston will find a job in this league still. I hope his agent hits up Philly. They need a backup point guard that can throw entry passes to Bynum.
