Send Jeremy Lin to D-League for a few games
I know this idea sounds crazy, but hear me out before you flame me.
Currently, Lin is in a shooting funk, there's no doubt about that. Personally, I believe he's putting too much pressure on himself to perform up to his big contract, afraid to make mistakes because he doesn't want to let down his teammates and fans. But the mode that Lin plays best is when he's carefree and not overthinking.
I know that D-League is perceived as a demotion, disrespect, punishment. But what better place for Lin to play his game without pressure and overthinking, and regain his confidence than D-League? In his first year when he played 20 games in D-League, he shot 39% from 3 pt range! So there's no reason he can't shoot 39% for open 3's in the NBA. Last year, he was only getting garbage time with the Knicks. He was sent to D-League for 1 game, where he had a 28/11/12 triple double. He was immediately recalled and started getting some non-garbage minutes, averaging 10min/6pt/4ast with the Knicks over the next 4 games. And then, Linsanity.
Lin doesn't want to hurt the team by missing shots during NBA games that count. But if he plays a few D-League games, he can dominate, finish at the rim, hit his jumpers, and get his confidence back quickly. Lin's a humble guy, he can swallow his pride and do what's best for the long term.

Right. Lin will regain his self-esteem by beating up a bunch of scrubs, while the Rockets struggle even more at point guard than they have already.
But do you know what they call a fool, who's full of himself and jumps into the path of death because it's cool?

Re: Send Jeremy Lin to D-League for a few games
When you say Lin is in a shooting funk what are you basing that on?
He's a career 41% from the field and 29% from the three point line. Even in college, he wasn't a lights out shooter = averaged 48% from the field and 33% from the three point line (and that was against Harvard opponents).
I think its very possible this is Lin's shooting ability not a funk.

He's played a total of 77 NBA games which isn't even a full season... Lin is essentially a second year player.

Hey, it worked for him last year with the Knicks. Lin was barely even getting garbage time, and considering playing in Europe. Then he scored 28 pts in his D-League stint, and it did boost his confidence and play when he returned to the Knicks.
while the Rockets struggle even more at point guard than they have already.
One solution around that is to just send him during a 3+ day rest (like the current one), so he won't miss any Rockets games either.

Re: Send Jeremy Lin to D-League for a few games
I see what you're saying, but...
It boosted his confidence a year ago because he didn't even know if he could be an NBA player at that point. While he's still very young, he's come a long way from that point to where he's our clear cut starter at PG. Now that he's a starter, not only does he get demoted to the bench, but sent to the D-League when we literally do not have a better option than him? How would dominating a D-League game regain that confidence? It would just solidify the fact that the difference in competition between both leagues is huge, IMO. Especially when our backup PG is Toney Douglas....
As poor as Lin has played - he's still played decent defense, while making good passes, and rebounding well. He isn't even turning it over at the alarming rate that he did last season - he simply isn't able to hit his shots right now, but he's MUCH better than Douglas. I thought he played well enough against NYK, hopefully he can build on that, and be more consistent in his game.

There is definitely a lot of logic behind it... but the problem is the NBA is not that simple. For one, sending a player you signed to a 3 yr 25 million contract to the d-league is going to have a lot of repercussions and backlash from the media (and fans). Then there's the fact that the Rockets can't afford to lose a PG right now. He's just going to have to learn to get himself out of this hump in order to stay in the league

Ok but what is the basis for anyone to conclude he is in a "shooting funk"? If Kevin Durant starts shooting 30% from the field then you can claim that is a funk because he's established he is a great shooter already. But Lin has yet to show he can shoot the ball decently - so its quite possible he just isn't a good shooter.

Re: Send Jeremy Lin to D-League for a few games
no, please just trade jeremy lin to another team. i get the feeling that sampson doesn't like him. unlike harden or or even parsons, lin's not allowed to play through his mistakes. if he struggles just a bit, he sits for the rest of the game. he's not even allowed to run the offense most of the time it's bring the ball up, give it up to harden and step aside.
pardon my english, coz my english sux!

Re: Send Jeremy Lin to D-League for a few games
Dumb thread but with that said, Lin had a bad game and Douglas was hot I don't have a problem with keeping in a hot player. Note that they kept Greg Smith in for Asik and Delfino for Parsons as well so it wasn't just Lin.
