Omer Asik Jumper

What is you take?
You like it he should continue to take it or just leave it alone?
I for one do believe if he puts more arch on it it can be effective.... When he is not thinking too much he seems to have decent form on it. His ability to shoot it would mean the world to the Rockets offense and Omer's driving game . Most likely he gets the green light to shoot because he makes them in practice (he would never take them if not told bythe coaching stafff). Rather than anoyed I am intrigued by it...

Why not? nothing wrong with a center taking a <5 foot jump shot. Open up more angles, pump fake opportunities, anything to stop him from top doing his reverse scoop layup every time (not that he can't do it occasionally, but what 7 ft center does that every time?)

When you are 20 something, you should always try to learn more jumpers... and dunks for that matter.

He should perfect catching a pass before taking jumpers in my opinion...

Yea lets ask a 57% FT shooter to shoot jumpers.....
How many open shots does he make from 18 feet? Maybe 30%?z
Omer should learn to hit a layup before he even thinks about shooting jumpshot in game.

Imagine Omer with 10 - 15 ft jumper and be able to finish at the rim.
He will be 20/14/2 type of player

I can't even imagine Omer with a layup that I trust him making much less a 10-15 ft jumper
I do love Omer though...dude has progressed so much and hopefully Dawson continues working on his offensive game

He wasn't trusted with offense before, so this is something new for him. He makes so many simple mistakes (not just shooting, in every game you see him rushing too much or acting too slowly) that can be corrected through practice and real game experience. And it also makes you wonder how good he can become if he can correct those. Still, I wasn't expecting him to become a valuable contributor for the Rockets in his first year as a starter.

If he develops a consistent jumper and free throws, he could make an all star game(s) as a reserve during the course of his career.

I think he should take it when we face weaker team and we dominate the oppnent. It will be a good practice. I believed in an Interview asik said he was nervous on the offense. His Brother Noah used to have a bad jumper, look at him now. In fact last year these two were known as Bull's two worst offensive players

Agreed that Omer needs to learn to catch the ball before anything else lol. It's to the point where there's no point running the pick and roll wit him cause teams would just double and leave Asik open.. and if you pass it to him its a turnover. He fumbled the ball quite alot on the Bulls too but this year its just ..damn.

If he can make his jumpers, he can play up to the age of 33 at minimum, he has never relied much on athleticism anyway

Umm no, not by any stretch of the imagination was Noah considered one of the 2 worst offensive players on the Bulls last season. If you meant as far as starters I might agree but since you're including Asik you're talking about the whole team, and in that case it was Asik and Brewer with Butler, Scalabrine and Gibson all behind Noah

With a player like Asik you're looking at an old school centre, we don't want him turning into one of these new age go out to the perimeter centres, he isn't a rookie and he isn't going to suddenly start knocking them down at a rate efficient enough to justify it.
I'd prefer he focus on getting inside and battling for offensive rebounds, or setting screens on the perimeter

We need his jumper to draw defender off the rim, i was talking about abot 6> foot jumper.

His form and release doesn't look bad at all, actually.
