And if you have the time and are looking for something to do, might I recommend the following:

http://www.houstonpress.com/2013-01-10/ ... otography/

War/Photography: Images of Armed Conflict and its Aftermath

Not exactly a "feel good" exhibit, but from the people I've talked to who have seen this it is incredibly powerful and haunting. This is a collection of war photography starting in the Mexican-American War going all the way up to recent headlines. The collection is said to be arranged in such a manner as to accentuate the impact on the individuals living in these war-torn areas. The exhibit can be seen at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and will eventually go on the road with stops in Los Angeles, Washington D.C. & Brooklyn. I believe that it will return here after that, but I'm not sure.

I'm planning on checking this out once I'm no longer a walking petri dish for the flu.

Go Houston!

12/27/12 Post:

Good morning, all! Just giving you all a head's up on what's being discussed on our other Houston forums.

Yes, the Astros are still a Major League Team.

For the Houston Astros:

Does Craig Biggio belong in the Hall of Fame?

Happy New Year, Houston (and all of our Houstonians at heart!)

Today is the first day of a new year, and let's take a look at what is going around in the Houston area with all of our sports teams...and a few other things to do.

First off, I love that we're going back to this logo for our Astros! But before we look forward let's talk about some of the last Astros Greats:

Biggio: Hall of Fame?

And if you have the time and are looking for something to do, might I recommend the following:

http://buffalosoldiersmuseum.com/cms/

This museum is located a couple of miles away from Toyota Center in the Museum District on Southmore just west of Almeda. This museum is run by extemely knowledgeable individuals along with dedicated volunteers who understand that the story of American Patriotism cannot be told without the tales of these unsung heroes.

Go Houston!

Only 50 weeks 'til Christmas, Houston!!!

We are one week into 2013. The Rockets have taken off, the Texans have won their wild card weekend matchup and there is legit Astros News!!!

Seriously. Totally Legit.

This is where I wish that I could post a link to MLB renouncing the stupid decision to bounce the Astros to the Gimmick League, but sadly that day has not come yet. That said, we did have a couple of cool things happen on the ol' Disastros front!

And if you have the time and are looking for something to do, might I recommend the following:

http://www.menil.org/

Located on between Mandell and Mulberry just south of Alabama, the Menil Collection was founded by John de Menil & his wife, Dominique Schlumberger de Menil (yes, that Schlumberger). The couple left France during World War II and found their way to Houston. While their impact on the oil & gas industry is more well known, the couple are also known as two of the most influential figures in the arts community in Houston. The main gallery is free for admission, and worth at least a trip or two...every year.
