Hey all, Sixer fan here and Adrian Woj is reporting that we have hired Sam Hinkie as our new GM.
Any insight from Rockets fans on hm?
Has he been close with Morey over the years?
I'm excited for a fresh perspective as we have far too long kept hiring people with ties to the mediocre ways of past Sixer days. Always liked the way Houston has been running things over the past few years and Morey is constantly active in making moves and giving players shots to try and find "diamonds in the rough".
Hopefully this guy can do a similar thing with our roster by acquiring lots of young talent on reasonable deals to keep things open for bigger moves down the road.
Any insight is helpful and appreciated. Thanks

Now they trying be Houston?
Hinkie better remember who made him, open up a mutual relationship between the two cites.
I say Lin/Trob for Jrue/Turner is a good start.

Good luck with that trade. Let's start with Harden for Jrue and Thad.

Pretty well thought of in the League. He's fully bought into the type of sports analytics that Morey is known for.
He pretty much was at a place where he had advanced as far as he could withing the Rockets organization. Looking forward to seeing what he does now that he's in a GM position of his own.
I predict that many Sixers fans will not like his moves early on. They'll think that he sells some assets low and won't overpay for big name players.

Re: Insight on new Sixers GM Sam Hinkie?
I have a friend who attended the Sloan Conference for the past 2 years and was scouted by both Morey and Hinkie to be one of their operations analyst. Based on his claims, Hinkie was targeted by the Sixers for awhile. They have gradually transformed themselves to be one of those Moneyball/analytic teams and apparently needed someone like Hinkie to analyze the data they have. When Hinkie was with the Rockets, he also played an important role in developing the RV Vipers. With Sixers' recent purchase of the Delaware 87ers, it looks like he will carry on the work he's done with the Rockets. So it's not just about acquiring talents for a good purchase, but the Sixers are going to have a lot of talent coming from their farm system.
This is a fantastic move imo. I won't be surprised if the Sixers will undergo a lot of changes in the next few seasons.
Here's his bio if you're interested:

p.s.: It's funny to see that there are certain teams that are still seeking ex-NBA players or coaches to be the head of their operations. How is it that teams like the Raptors are considering hiring Phil Jackson as their GM? I just don't see how this route stands a chance come few years down the road againsts teams that have the personnel who can come up with those analyses.

What I want to know... is how does this impact us?
I have no idea how important Hinkie is to the organization.

Morey 2020.

Morey could call Hinkie and offer Trob and either White, TJones, or Dmo for their 11th pick this season plus additional pick to get the rox under more cap room for max contract to howard should he decide to part ways with Lakers....or maybe just Trob for 11th pick.
