Everybody trying to be Rockets

Post#1 » by Zubby » Sat May 11, 2013 2:28 am

Dafuq is this, looks like the Rockets are the new Spurs.

Morey/McHale... dat blueprint. Everyone is trying to poach our staff. Hope Dwight's paying attention

Short an Asst. GM, two coaches might be gone, rest of the league looks thirsty.
No one is calling about Finch, good, supposed to be the successor to McHale in a few years.

Houston Rockets flipped entire roster last year now looks like this year year we're gonna see if they can succeed after staff gets flipped.

and Morey/McHale didn't win any end of season awards... smh
I don't see anyone going after Denver's staff.

Morey's right hand man(Sam Hinkie) just took the GM position with 76ers. Wonder if he will convince the owner to part ways with Bynum...lol

Mavericks have signed Gersson Rosas to be their new GM. He is/was the Rockets VP of Basketball Operations.

I guess this is Cuban's payback for us signing Dwight.

Heard him a lot of interviews and it seemed like he was more oversees then anything. He always gave good interview and seems to know a thing or two.

Can't really give one, because it is unclear who is the real driving force behind front office decisions.

I was hoping he was more of an American focused guy. I feel like Donnie Nelson is still pretty well connected overseas and I think he is a decent NBA talent evaluator(we do well in trades anyway) but our FO has had a hole for a longtime concerning drafting kids from American colleges.

Now that Dirk is near the end I dont think we can afford to completely ignore the draft like we have the last dozen years.

he travels to europe alot to find and scout players there..his interviews are standard type of stuff..nothing unusual...one thing about interviews with rockets management or staff...they don't give any 'inside' info publically or anything that revealing. i think it has to do with morey...he pretty much runs everything and they just follow and learn.

Rosas with Mavs could also mean possible Dirk to Houston...haha

I am just a bit unnerved about losing two front office guys in the same offseason.
Then again, the Spurs have been "losing" them for years.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?

it's been 3. Hinkie, Karnisovas and Rosas

In 2007 Morey lost his VP of BB Ops (Rosas job) Dennis Lindsey to the Spurs who became their Assistant GM to replace Sam Presti. Lindsay is now the GM of Utah Jazz.

So there are 4 executives in the league who worked with/under Morey who are now either GMs (Lindsey, Hinkie, Rosas) or Assistant GMs (Karnisovas)

Its interesting that the league really values our front office but not a single coach was hired by another team. This makes me wonder what other teams think of our coaching staff.

Idk I thought the coaching staff was in very high demand, iirc didn't even the celtics inquiry about McHale?

Every coach on staff was looked at by another team, but IMO their track records turned teams off after all, those teams are trying to tank for Wiggins. ;)

I wonder if Morey's "genius" was the result of one of these assistants who have left the team kind of like how Tom Thibodeau was the Celtics' best coach when they won it all.

Actually, almost all of Denver's staff is gone. Masai is now the GM of the Raptors and their Assistant GM is now the GM for the Kings. George Karl got fired and all their assistant coaches are gone with Brian Shaw becoming their new head coach and bringing in his own assistants.

The Rockets staff have value these days because for the past few years they were a perfectly run organization. Rebuilding in a good way while staying competitive. It allowed prospective players to know they are going to make the playoffs (and sell tickets) while also having enough space to acquire new talent

Just look at the way they were making the playoffs year by year but still had the capacity to acquire Harden and Dwight
