Jones for Taj Gibson?

Post#1 » by tre11408 » Mon May 27, 2013 9:35 pm

Hello Rockets fans, I just have a simple question (and please don't flame me, this isn't my idea and I think Morey hangs up the phone laughing)-

If the Rockets can't land their most coveted Free Agent this summer, would they trade Terrence Jones to the Bulls to Taj Gibson?

As a Bulls fan I do this trade all day long and twice on Sunday, but again I think Morey laughs.

I only ask because it's part of several trades with several teams a Bulls fan is proposing on our board- he thinks Morey probably doesn't do it but- and I quote him- "the Rockets would definitely consider it if they don't land any big FAs. They Had a horrible defense and reuniting Taj and Asik would help that a lot."

Thanks in advance, and good luck to your team in the future.

Absolutely not.

Even if Houston misses out on their top free agent targets, they are not the type of team who is just going to make a move just to make a move. If they don't get anything this offseason, then do not take on unnecessary salary that won't put you over in the West and aim for the next offseason.

That is an advantage of having such a young team. They don't have to make moves unless they are absolute game-changers. This move would not qualify.

Terrance Jones will be better than Taj :D

Taj also gets paid too much for me.

What was wrong with Taj this year? He's generally been much better in the past.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

I don't think we'd do it at the moment, because we're still in the FA mode, and potentially losing the chance at getting Dwight isn't worth it for Gibson. But I know Morey really likes Gibson (iirc, he mentioned it in an interview in January on the Dan LeBatard show). He's one of the best defensive power forwards in the league. I think we'd like to have Gibson, but not until after we acquired a second superstar sort player since he's more a supporting guy. And at that point, we likely wouldn't have the cap to do a TJones/Gibson sort swap..

Agreed. The priorities are spending the big monies to get the big free agent first. Taj Gibson is a complement player to the big piece that has yet to be acquired.

Taj was a great deal when he was on his rookie contract.

Now, not so much.

Well he was signed to that big contract with the understanding that he would replace Boozer in the starting line-up.

Boozer's play however, has picked up and Gibson's hasn't improved to receive a promotion.

Now he's quite an over-paid reserve. I believe he has received his ceiling or is very close.

I like Gibson, but he definitely got a bigger contract than most teams are willing to pay.

I like Taj Gibson defensively, but I think Terrence Jones is going to be a bigger, and better, version of Taj Gibson with more position versatility and range out the 3.
