Rockets sign Ronnie Brewer

Post#1 » by TMACFORMVP » Mon Aug 19, 2013 11:02 pm

Marc Stein reporting we are close to a deal signing Brewer.

Not bad. He's a good defender, can't shoot though.

What the hell??

Why do we need ronnie brewer? What purpose does he serve?

We need three point shooters to spread the floor no a mini shane battier minus a three point shot...

Im so confused.

well nobody say anything about him making the team for sure

other than
Howard, Harden, Parsons, Lin, Asik, Jones, Motiejunas, Beverly, Canaan, Camby
the rest are not guarantee a spot yet

I'll say Garcia and Greg Smith both have zero chance of being cut.

I dont think Ronnie Brewer makes the team. Its between him and Reggie Williams imo.

All your free agents are belong to us.

(It's a novel strategy, when you think about it. Sign 247 free agents to partially guaranteed contracts, simply so no other team in the league can fill out their roster before opening night. A touch mad, yes. But intriguing.)

Brewer was real good with Utah for those two years, especially in '08 when they beat us :(. He was a good defender that knew his limitations offensively. He didn't take threes b/c that's not his strength, and was a good slasher that finished at a high efficiency. But who gets cut is a good question...could even be him.

Lin, Beverley, Brooks, Cannan
Harden, Brewer, R. Williams
Parsons, Garcia, Casspi
TJones, DMo, Smith
Howard, Asik, Camby

Even if you assume the not-yet NBA guys are going to get cut (Young, Henriquez, Covington - even though a guy like Young, IIRC is partially guaranteed which makes it weird), someone from that above 16 has to get cut.

TBH, it almost looks like Brooks would be the odd man out (dunno if we'd cut him though). Brewer/Reggie provide something different. Garcia/Casspi aren't getting cut. Maybe Smith gets moved for small incentive perhaps? We'd likely play Parsons/Casspi more at the 4 anyway..I doubt we'd cut Smith though, b/c he's a productive young big on a per minute basis.

With Harden playing 36-38 minutes at SG there really isnt any reason to have 6 wing players. And then on top of that you have Jeremy Lin who could and should share the court with Beverly.

Assuming roster spot is still 15, final cut between Brewer and Williams. I dont think Brooks getting cut. That would be cruel. I'll rather have R. Williams personally but i see the merit in keeping a better defensive player for matchup purposes.

I think you're probably right. I don't think we'd actually cut Brooks, and would come down to Williams or Brewer. Not sure which I'd prefer...I think Williams has more potential to be a big factor on this team, BUT Brewer definitely provides something more different than the rest of our perimeter guys.

Edit - lol. I need the season to start so badly, I got excited seeing the news that we signed Ronnie Brewer...because it was some news. Frankly speaking, he's been absolutely terrible offensively the past two seasons, and isn't TA defensively.

It will be interesting to see how all the assets are played in the market. I expect the competition level at training camp to be on a furious high. The Rockets have to be the team with the most excitement to get together and train some more. The leaders have already developed some chemistry and as been noted : D12s spent time with Harden, Beverley, and met up with JLin & Parsons in Taiwan between their Asia obligations.

Image

One thing is certain, the team leaders and vets area buying in and building that super-friendship that not many teams in the NBA have.

D12s cut out of the pic so youll have to open the pic to see the full image if you have not seen it yet :D

1. Dwight Howard $20,513,178
2. James Harden 13,668,750
3. Chandler Parsons 926,500
4. Jeremy Lin 8,374,646
5. Omer Asik 8,374,646
6. Terrence Jones 1,551,840
7. Donatas Montiejunas 1,422,720
8. Patrick Beverley 788,872
9. Greg Smith 884,293 (unguaranteed)
10. Francisco Garcia 1,265,977
11. Omri Casspi 947,907
12. Isaiah Canaan 570,515
13. Aaron Brooks 884,293
14. Marcus Camby 1,399,507
15. Reggie Williams 947,907 (50% guaranteed)
16. Robert Covington 490,180 (first year guaranteed)
17. BJ Young 490,180 (40k guaranteed)
18. Jordan Henriquez 490,180 (unguaranteed)
19. Ronnie Brewer unknown

we need to cut 4 and usually those non-guaranteed contract will get cut first
so you are looking at Smith, Henriquez, Young, and Williams

You know I'm as jazz hating as they come, but Brewer just doesn't seem to have the stink on him.

I would rather williams than brewer

Lin/bev/brooks/Canaan
Harden/casspi/Williams
Parsons/Garcia
Jones/smith/d-mo-----no idea this rotation
Howard/Asik/camby (dumbest signing I really hate that signing, love camby but hate the signing...smith as our 3rd center>>>>>>camby who played like 10 games last season for the knicks after coming into camp out of shape...eff vet presence, coming into camp like that isn't a mentor)

Also Shandon Anderson, Antoine Carr, Scott Padgett
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming
