McHale: Lin and Bev will alternate starts

Per the post game press conference.

Saw this one coming a mile away, as the fit just wasn't right. This will balance out the roster very well.

Beverley
Harden
Parsons
Jones
Howard

Lin
Garcia
Casspi
Motiejunas
Asik

Both lineups are very solid. For the bench mob, Lin's pick and Roll and Dmo's postups should be the primary offensive options

This might work out to be the way to go though i think it is 50/50 with Motie as starter...if he keeps improving.

Both players are showing to be productive.

It's all the dancing from Harden that bugs me. It's really embarrassing when he does that and turn it over.

Yea when I woke up and saw that Bev/Jones were starting I figured McHale was gonna rotate both positions for at least the preseason.

Maybe Casspi gets a chance to start at PF at some point.

changing lineup from game to game i don't know if that's a good idea
some players have problem with that like Royce White :D

I think he means alternate start during preseason right? No way we switch starters up and upset the chemistry during the regular season.

If Lin doesn't start next game in Taiwan, i fear there will be a riot.

Next game i want to see this lineup

Lin
Harden
Parsons
Casspi
Howard

Looks like therell be an Asik sighting instead. theyre aching to see an Asik/Dwight combo cause Morey needs it to finalize the roster. remaining preseason games will determine his fate.

Lin mightve found his calling as a 6th man. his partnership with Harden in the backcourt gotta end. he's not suited for defer-ball for an ISO scheme, Bev is. he can be aggressive all he wants with the 2nd unit. i think he'll eat the rest of the league's backup PGs too.

I thought Lin was fantastic coming off the bench. He was in attack mode 100% of the time. Thats something he can't do as the 4th option in the starting lineup.

He was getting to the rim at will, he missed some gimmes but those were great shots at the rim. He got the bigs involved with PnR, got them open shots and layups. Thats something Beverly can't do.

I think Lin will understand that 6th man isn't a demotion, its something we need to do to shore up a weakness for the 2nd unit.

Lin for 6th Man Of The Year!!

Problem is when Harden plays 40 minutes a game. The 2nd unit thing is a fallacy for preseason. Luckily, we'll have Howard demanding more touches and that might mean less minutes for Harden.

McHale is going to be a master juggler before the season ends.

Also, I find the narrative strange.

When Lin plays great with the Bench = 6th man

When Beverley plays great with the Bench = Starter

Why is this? I rather them fight it out fair.

isn't the result the same?
Beverley starting and Lin off the bench?

Yes, the results are more or less the similar. With exception that Lin played well from the bench AND as a starter. Beverley didn't have as good a game as ball handler vs the Pelicans.

However, it's till preseason. And, I think I'm giving this too much attention.

I was only pointing out that the narrative is strange. That no matter how Lin does he still gets support as a bench player. It's a no win situation and he deserves a fair fight.

"No win situation" for who, fanboys?, what does that mean.
Right before you say that you mention Lin still getting support off the bench, yet 2:1 here voted him a starter over sub.

Lets not attach labels.

I'm trying to promote fair competition.

If you want to talk about polls, the Houston Chronicle has Jeremy at 80% to start over Beverley.

McHale is doing everything in his power to give Beverley the leverage to be the starter. However, I'm unclear on the motivation. McHale makes some unique decisions in basketball and in personal life. Like how as a GM he gave KG to his former team Celtics and got fired by Timberwolves.

imagine if mchale started this in taiwan. would the fans lynch him? would stern fine him for basketball reasons?

i think lin off the bench would be better as he'll be first option. but are the rockets willing to pay 8m for a bench player? i suspect them raising his trade value. don't be surprised if they send lin and asik for a godly pg or pf after they sign the taiwan tv deal

Does McHale hate Jeremy or something?

Maybe, he did cut Jeremy once already and now in that awkward situation where he has to coach the guy he cut.

IMO, I have no idea how McHale thinks, this guy did some strange stuff as GM and as a coach.

McHale is definitely pushing buttons to test his limits. However, McHale is very good at playing dumb and not aware he did anything wrong. McHale dun goofed with Timberwolves signing Joe Smith and Stern punished him by suspending McHale for 1 season and took away 3 first round draft picks.

That's some whacky history.

I'm pretty sure McHale was responsible for us drafting Royce White too.

McHale has zero input on front office decisions.

Morey cut Lin and Morey drafted White.
