Will Kevin Durant Choose Houston in 2016?

Post#1 » by Nebula1 » Fri Oct 25, 2013 12:44 pm

Jalen Rose seems to think so and I do too. He reps his Texas gear all the time and Houston would obviously move to a favorite year in/out with Harden/Durant/Howard..

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/79487/video-jalen-predicts-kevin-durant-will-join-james-harden-in-houston

During Bill and Jalen's preview of the Houston Rockets' season, Jalen predicts that Kevin Durant will join James Harden and Dwight Howard on the Rockets at the end of his run in Oklahoma City. Not done there, Jalen also predicts that Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love will team up on the Los Angeles Lakers. And you thought only Clairvoyant Bill could see the future …

I think it happens, although it means no Love or Aldridge

Question is, to me, does Durant then become the PF or does it mean Parsons is gone?

Anyone in their right mind would take one Durant over 10 Loves and Aldridges.

I'm aware of that, although both are great players. What I'm saying is the PF position may not get filled with a big name as soon as some hoped if Houston has hopes of signing Kevin Durant.

You didn't answer the question though... if Durant comes, does Parsons go or does Durant play the PF?

It's a moot point. IF Durant comes we wont be able to afford Parsons, Lin, Asik or pretty much any other players not making the minimum.

Obviously Lin and Asik would be gone, but this team can afford the starting 5 I suggested.

I guess you answer thus becomes Parsons is gone. I disagree.

This is true, but if Houston is looking at an 80M salary base and can get Howard to take a little less, then it can get done. Obviously a ton depends on how much Parsons gets and he could price himself off that team, but Houston could certainly afford the big 4: Beverly, Harden, Durant and Howard. I don't think Beverly would price himself off.

It all circles back to the possibility of Durant signing here, which I think is quite possible considering all the other variables. That would be a dream come true.

Westbrook is going to the Lakers.. so I think it will be fine. Even Durant loves the Bev like the rest of us. :)

I think you'd have to ask Howard to re-work his deal a bit and try to bring the 3 of Harden, Durant and Howard together for no more than 60M similar to Miami. Then plug in the holes. Currently both DMO and Jones and some of the younger guys all have their QOs that season.

He would be gone. Just way to much money to keep him and I am sure you have to renounce his rights to create cap space.

Between Lin, Asik's expiring and Parsons for Durant, that might have been enough if Durant publically wants out, if the Harden trade didn't happen already. I don't think it's going to happen though. The issue here is that Oklahoma already got fleeced once by the Rockets. To do it again would mean Presti losing his job.

An alternate thing to consider is that Durant+Perkins comes to Houston by way of Dwight and Parsons. I think Presti can get away with that, it's not an outright fleecing (on paper at least), and we keep Asik while having Perk as backup. If we don't advance past the 2nd round this year, this might be something to consider, especially if Dwight loses his mind again.

I wonder if Dwight has a no trade clause in his contract. if everyone is healthy I think I'd rather have Dwight and Parsons than Durant and Perkins (Yes I realize Asik would be the starting C not Perk)

Presti would be practically setting himself up for the firing squad if he was to let KD leave!

I think even if Westbrook leaves and he fails to find a replacement sidekick for Durant, his job will be in jeopardy as well.

I would want Dwight and Parsons rather than Durant and Perkins as well if everything goes to plan. It gives us an orthodox inside out offense in half court with more looks at Center as the finisher. You get the opportunity with more movement of the ball between options as the defense has to pick and choose what kills them.

With Durant, the ball stays on the wings. We're going to look like a slightly more talented Heat circa the first year after The Decision. Two dudes taking turns going off per possession and working out chemistry is going to be annoying to watch.

Guys, I really don't think we need Durant (and shouldn't consider bringing him aboard unless Dwight is declining and will take a ton less money). I'd rather win a championship with 2 stars and a great supporting cast (a la LAL or SA) than with 3 superstars and a bunch of scrubs (Miami). The former feels like a "Houston" Championship. The latter would just feel like the 3 superstars winning a championship.
