DALLAS -- Mavericks owner Mark Cuban lost the recruiting battle for Dwight Howard to the Houston Rockets, but Cuban believes that's because the big man made a bad decision.
"Obviously, he made a mistake in judgment," Cuban said Thursday, a little more than 24 hours before the Mavericks play Howard's Rockets in Houston. "Do I blame him? No, that's what young kids do. They make mistakes in judgment."
The Mavs and Rockets were two of the five teams that made pitches to Howard and his agents in Los Angeles this summer. Cuban thinks Howard, 27, had already made up his mind to sign with the Rockets and team up with 24-year-old rising superstar shooting guard James Harden.
Mavs superstar Dirk Nowitzki is 35, but Cuban considers it foolish to make a decision in free agency based primarily the age of potential co-stars.
"You choose teams. You don't choose players," Cuban said. "If he made a choice off of an individual player, yeah, he made a mistake. You choose teams. You choose organizations. You choose coaches. And it's just not relative to Houston. That's just the way I look at it, because if he's that good, then the right organization …
"Put aside Dwight. Any young superstar looking to make a move, if you're that good, then the right organization gets all the right pieces around you. So it's not about you'd rather play with this guy. If you're that good and you have [salary-cap] flexibility, the right organization will put the right pieces around you and get you there."
http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/i ... g-decisionCuban sound butt hurt? First Howard the Rosas. Missed out on what three years of superstars and had to settle with Monte and Calderon.

we missed Bosh, Melo, D-Will, Howard (1st time), Gasol (denied, thank you Stern)
Morey doesn't care if he lost his job he's very patient and doesn't want to make a move to make a move and finally got Harden
unlike Mavs we don't have any aging superstar we can wait
Cuban wants to win again and hope to do it with Nowitzki
too bad he made a bad move on Chandler
he though he could get Howard so he didn't offer Chandler the longer contract he wanted
he could have another chance if he kept the championship team together

How could ESPN not ask him why he fired his brand new GM after just 3 months. Oh and the GM just happened to be part of the crew that recruited Dwight.

Cuban is a tool, but this should be a decent game. I'm curious to see what the Rockets do with Nowitzki, considering the desire to play Howard at PF.

Cuban seems to be a bit disconnected from reality right now if he thinks that Dwight's decision was only to play with one player.
The Rockets are the organization that's been making the moves to build a great team. They're the ones who had Hakeem, Yao, Dikembe, Elvin, Moses & Clyde selling him on what he can do here. They're the organization with a coach for whom players want to play.
The Mavs have had more recent success, but they have appeared like a rudderless ship since that championship. Dwight did not make an error in judgement like Cuban suggests. He made a decision based on the criteria Cuban suggests...it just turns out that decision did not lead to the Mavericks.
Go Rockets!

Monta had 9 points in that 4th quarter at Toyota Center but he hit that 27 foot 3 pointer at the buzzer to win it.

Nah, he's probably just selling fans to save face. I highly doubt he really thinks that.

true...he kinda chuckled after saying it...so don't think he was all that serious...cuban is one of the brightest minds in business...he surely knows the rockets are a great organization....hey, darryl morey follows cuban on twitter and vice-versa....don't be surprised down the road if morey leaves rockets, he might be the next GM or VP for the Mavs.

As a Mavs fan I'm disappointed we didn't get Dwight. I think he will turn back into a beast that he used to be. Cuban is totally trying to save face. The guy has made nothing but idiotic moves since the end of the championship season. I mean right after Dwight signed with you guys he said we were better off without him. He is totally contradicting himself by saying this now. I'm grateful that he is passionate about the Mavs but I think b/c of his TV exposure he sometimes gets more credit than what I think he deserves. With that said good luck except against the Mavs!

he need to adjust
big man instinct is guarding the paint
he need to remember now he got Asik inside he doesn't have to get back to cover the paint all the time
