Dwight's freethrow. What to do?

Post#1 » by dunleavyjr » Tue Nov 12, 2013 4:40 am

There's going to be lots of Hack-a-Dwight. Guy just can't buy anything from the charity stripe. Any solutions?

1. Take him out late in the game?
2. Hire free throw coach?
3. Make him shoot 100 FT before each every game?

Nothing just go with it and pray to the gods he hits one or two.

Exactly. You can't bench your best player. Everything else he does helps you win.

his all mental
he just need to relax and let his muscle memory take over and just shoot it
problem is he think too much
catch and shoot usually goes in because of it
when you are wide open and you think too much you usually miss

Team needs to remember Dwight is on the floor for more than a couple quarters

I would sub out dwight if they go to HackaDwight. Doc did that with DeAndre.

Doc isn't benching his best big when does that though.

This is why we have Asik.

Get real man, homer aside, Dwight shot 33% FT tonight.

Get real? You compared DeAndre Jordan to Dwight Howard.

Yeah, it doesn't matter how valuable the player is. Any player who misses free throws get benched...because that's what Phil Jackson did to Shaq and Popovich did to Duncan.

you guys cant blame any loss on FT shooting anymore...we will miss alot of them...we knew getting howard that this was pretty much a given...just hope he gets 1 of 2 everytime and roll with it.

It's context isn't it. If you guys noticed, even McHale subbed out Howard on offense at the last 30 seconds in the 2nd overtime.

A good coach know when to protect the win and his players. Doc did that perfectly with DeAndre, there was no drama.

Howard didn't even want to touch the ball at the end of tonight's game, he was afraid to shoot FTs.

Like I said, taking him out denies the Rockets everything he does well. Dwight got an offensive board and gave it to Jones to put the Rockets ahead for good.

It is what it is.

If it is not better after nine years in the league, it is never going to improve.

I have an idea. How about asking Yao to be Dwight's FT coach? Yao is a big dude. He knows that secret at the charity stripe.

At this point in Dwight's career, I doubt there is much in the way of coaching or practice that can help him significantly improve his free throws. I'm sure that he's already spent hundreds of hours of his career going through that routine. At this point, it's all mental. You could make him shoot 1000 free throws before every game or make him practice them 8 hours a day and it still probably won't be of much help in an actual in-game situation.
