Why Donatas still does not get minutes?

Ok so it seems like McHale is not a fan of rotation and maybe that is discussed in many other topics in this forum.
But why DMo still does not get any minutes? there were at least a couple of games where he could play a lot of trash minutes but even then he was kept on the bench.
his defense is not good at all but doesn't he deserve at least 5-7 minutes per game? even when Asik was kept to limited minutes or some other PFs are injured - he is still being kept on the bench.
is there something behind the scenes we don't know? any conflict with McHale?
I would not be surprised DMo asks again to be send to development league.
If you don't need DMo let him play those 5-7 mins try to raise his value at least a little bit and I am sure he would be a good fit into any trade pack but keeping him on bench in this style is ridiculous

so what might be the reasons for benching him? poor defense? low basketball iq? too much of competition in the position?

come on now
how many Rockets game have you watch this season?
unless on your back of your jersey is HARDEN, HOWARD, PARSONS, or BEVERLEY
chance are if you don't play well you are going to sit on the bench
i watched both of those game Motiejunas get meaningful minutes
first one he was playing pretty good on offense but still miss a few rotation on defense
then the next game McHale reward him by giving him more playing time
he totally suck in that one (both offense and defense) so next game he's back on the bench

I guess you mean the game on 16 Nov vs Denver - W; 16m; 5/6 FGM - 12pts
Next game vs boston on 19 Nov - W; 18 mins; 5 pts on 2/8 shooting and 5 reb.

played total in 7 games - 4 of those were 5 mins or less

yes those two games are the only two games he get rotation minutes
the rest are just garbage time
i don't count those
even those he didn't show he wanted to play hard

ok, fair enough i guess this means you don;t think he deserves more. would you trade him then? do you think he has some trade value and/or has potential to develop?

don't ask me
i'm not the gm
i don't know what morey's plan is
if i'm the gm
i'll keep him around
his salary is not high anyway
good for filler by trading him with asik or lin for another player

T Jones got benched early vs the Jazz. McHale simply do not trust the young guys. Right now he is in the mood to play the hot hand. Beverley is the only guy McHale seem to have irrational trust in. Meaning, he gets to play out of slumps regardless of stats.

DMo is a prospect, he might get sent down to the D-leagues after Greg Smith recovers.

WHY DMO NO START? WHY DMO GET NO MINUTES? WHY NO SOY SAUCE WITH FLIED ICE?

he'd be a good glue guy on a already strong team. he can do everything in small doses and for a guy his size, i think is extremely rare. whether he ever gets that opportunity isn't something i can say, i'm pretty positive he won't on this team though.

I think we are sacrificing his minutes to trade Asik in the near future.

DMO deserved a sub last game.

i have a feeling he'd go with asik.

this is what it started with - how can DMO show something if he plays that little. why not letting him play at least garbage time and i am lazy to count but there were games like that and he even didn't play a minute. and if you play 4 mins what can you show

so if you have too many good tall guys why not trading them for a position you are lacking players in (if there is such :) ). or if you want to have healthy guys going into playoffs after 82 games, you try to involve as many players as you can at least in regular season developing them and resting the stars.
so is this McHale style on not rotating and developing players and playing the hot hand only?

I personally think Donatas has a lot of potential for a guy of his size especially in offense and I don;t understand why you don't even try to develop him and then either have him on the team or trade him with better value. is this too complex to understand for McHale?

But maybe I am bias being from DMO country and being from EU

T-Jones was in a similar situation
when he got the opportunity he showed McHale he can play
D-Mo got the same opportunity last season as starter and this year too
but both time he failed
and here you're asking for more playing time?
i'm pretty sure Royce White has lot of potential too

Jones will be heading back to the bench soon. Under McHale's system, bad start = bench, unless you are Harden, Parson and Beverley.

Jones has been over perform so far this season, and last game, he went 1 of 5 and he benched that game. He will get less and less minute from now on.

Asik is hurt, so DMo will probably get some playing time very soon.

Caveat, you never know with McHale though. lol.
