Lin and Asik cap hit 2014-2015

According to this, Lin's cap hit in 2014-2015 is $8.37M:
http://www.spotrac.com/nba/houston-rockets/jeremy-lin/It's not $15M as many have claimed. I'm guessing it's the same for Asik.
According to Zach Lowe, Asik (and Lin) will be owed $15M in 2014-2015, but only half of that amount will count against the cap. (
http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-trian ... -omer-asik ). In the same article, Lowe speculates that $15M for Asik may not be unreasonable for a rim-protecting double-double machine. What about Lin?
For a starter-grade PG, a cap hit of $8.37M is about average. Lin's a starter-grade PG in this league (you'd have to be a pathological LOH to not think that). Of course, he's not worth the $15M salary in that last year (you'd have to be a pathological LOF to not think that). But I think a lot of teams--especially rich ones like the Lakers and the Knicks, as well as rebuilding ones with a large Asian market like the Rap's--can afford it, and should be willing to pay it. However, the Rox, especially if they're looking to upgrade with another star and with Parsons due for a MASSIVE raise (and, in just my opinion, Parsons is as indispensable to this team as Dwight and Harden), DEFINITELY have to trade him.
So Lin will definitely be gone (or, worse comes to worst, maybe even waived, so Morey can cut his losses) before the start of next season. My guess is that Morey will retain Lin's services for the remainder of this year since, although the cap hit is $8M and change, his actual salary is $5M--and $5M for Lin, even off the bench, is a pretty good deal.

Yeah, I said that. It's in there. But some people, including Allan Hahn most recently, think the cap hit--which is more important--is $15M.

Loh seem to really care about Les Alexanders wallet...when it comes to Lin... so to them its 15 million forget the Cap space

A player's guaranteed salary still counts the same whether you waive them or not.

I'm surprised that anyone still believes this is the case. I'm particularly shocked if it is coming from a professional.
How is this misconception still out there?

Yeah, but if he gets signed after being waived, then the new salary gets deducted from the old salary. If Morey can find some team willing to pay Lin $5-7M for the year, that's $5-7M of Les's money Morey gets to save. Les may also not care about the money, in which case Morey might just bite the bullet and give Lin what he's owed. The best strategy for him, though, is to dump Lin ASAP for a cheaper alternative plus spare parts--or whatever he can get for him. I'm super confident that Lin will be traded over the off-season, but probably not before that.

Knowing Dolan, and Hahn being one of Dolan's pissants, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just deliberate obfuscation because the Knicks are sucking hard now and it's--to a large extent--because of a big hole in their 1-slot.

The Knicks suck because they have a $40+ million tied up in two players. A small forward who's useless unless he has the ball in his hands and a power forward whose game is predicated on his waning athleticism. The fact that their point guard is Raymond Felton only exacerbates that problem.

Well this is Houston rocket. But you are right about Knicks. Their problem start with that small forward.

the problem is they let Lin go because they were in a win now mode...which we all know they were never going to win it all...
and they were going to break down because of age and injuries
I just didnt expect it to happen so soon...
I did expect them to have a good year after Lin left because of pride issues... which they did last year

I've been a knick fan for 30+ years and trust me, a lot of us saw this coming for the Knicks. Only the few Melo lovers think the Knicks are real contenders.

You should take a visit to Clutchfans forum (or not, actually). One gets the impression it's mostly semi-literate racists and angry, barely English-capable Taiwanese LOFs at constant war with each other. I'm pretty sure they have no moderators. And most of them seem to believe the cap hit is $15M and are constantly citing sources to that effect.

Dude, I'm a Knick fan too. And no one thinks they are real contenders. Not last year, not since they dumped Patrick. Just Dolan and a bunch of nine-year olds.

if people go to Knick realgm site. They will see a lot of pro Melo fan that blindly cheer for Melo ISO style. If someone have some negative comment on Melo. They are mad and bash on you.
In fact, Melo is the main problem for the Knick. Not because he is not good but because his small forward position make it hard for other player (from Guard to PF and C) to be effective due to space issue. This is not hard to understand and coach knows that and they can not do anything unless they trade him away.

The money really doesn't matter...the point is that if Lin didn't have this huge contract...McHale would roll with AB...and Lin would be cut (like he was the first time under McHale). It's really a preference by McHale and staff not to include Lin in their strategic plan. They've decided to roll with Bev and overlook things like 0-assists in 32-minutes, a low shooting percentage and a complete lack of playmaking ability under the premise of his great defense. They've decided that no matter what, Bev is going to get 30-40 minutes a night to develop. In the meanwhile, the 25-year old Lin with greater potential sits and doesn't get to develop his game with the starters. His minutes will continue to drop and he will be brought in only under dire circumstances (i.e., Bev fouls out).
Do him a service McHale and tell Moray to deal him pleeeease.

McHale didn't cut Lin the first time.
Lin was the only non-guaranteed contract at the start of the season.
The team needed an open spot to add another big man (Dalembert).
Lowry & Dragic were clearly ahead of Lin at that time.
McHale had no part of that decision - that was Morey (who was on the record almost immediately saying that he regretted the decision, but that it was the only one that made sense at the time).

I think Jeff Adrien was also non-guaranteed because we waived him a few weeks after we cut Lin.
We needed him because of PPat's ankle injury but he was also an option to cut instead of Lin.
We had Lowry, Dragic and Jonny Flynn at point guard, all guaranteed contracts but we have 4 point guards right now with Bev, Brooks, Lin and Canaan so they should have and could have kept Lin and sent him to RGV like what we are doing with Canaan this year.

Oh stop, just stop.
Go to the Knicks board and see Melos paid minions on there defending his every move.

still bad 17m for those two guys who we have in the bench i rather have a star for 17m than 2 bench players thank you
