Beverley returns tonight

Post#1 » by KungFuJoe » Mon Jan 20, 2014 8:31 pm

Not that Lin was playing crazy minutes in the games before tonight (I think he actually sat out the entire 4th of the previous two games when McHale opted to go with Brooks instead) but his minutes are certainly going to decline even further now that Beverley is back.

Just for the record, Houston is 15-6 when Lin plays 30 minutes or more. They are 8-9 when Beverley plays 30 minutes or more.

Still trying to discover this "impact" that Beverley has on the team that makes them so much better when he starts and plays a lot of minutes. Obviously, the win/loss doesn't support it.

Damnit you got me... thought this was gonna have worthwhile news about a player coming off injury.

Instead its just another post complaining about rotation minutes which could have been post in a few other threads.

I am still offended that Lin isn't playing 280 minutes a night while running the entire aggregated playbook of the NBA and scoring 2,784,393,220 points per game while setting LeBron James on fire with his immortal heat vision.

Just about every lineup metric supports Beverley starting over Lin. Just did a long writeup on it over at CFans.

Yeah, I fully admit I didn't exactly follow protocol. I'm just frustrated right now. Frustrated with the way this team is playing and frustrated that Lin isn't getting a fair shake. Rockets games used to be fun. Last year was FUN. The way they ran and scored and blew teams out of the **** arena. I still remember the beating they gave Golden State last year and Mark Jackson had to intentionally foul them to stop the bleeding (and 3 point record in the making).

Yeah, well they're better this year. Rockets fans like Lin, but they'd rather see the team win than him get good stats.

The Lin/Beverley set for brief periods of Time should help to reduce Harden's minutes as well.

What about having Lin used optimally to help the team win? Many have a favorite player to root for and hope they do well along with their team winning. Some like teams and don't care about the personnel, some like players and follow them to any team they are on. There are different types of fans that could bring perspective to others. For instance, Lin fans can bring perspective to Rockets fans that haven't seen him play much under anyone other than McHale. McHale does not bring out the best in Lin by a long way. Harden was different under Brooks than McHale. I thought in some ways Harden was more of a team guy under Brooks. I like them both and I really wish they could become the deadly backcourt with some work they could have been and have showed they could be in some games (last season, OKC, Harden 46, Lin 29, just one of those games). Rockets fans that have not seen them that much in other systems may not realize how well they could complement one another with some work an dedication. And both can raise Howards game if they worked with each other. So, I'm not for Beverley starting, I think his grit and defensive intensity and strong rebounding are great energy off of the bench. I hope I showed how a wider view of how players can contribute more to a team.

This team IS better...but look at the guys they have. Added DH for pretty much NOTHING. TJones is having a breakout year. So is Parsons. Harden, even though he plays no D, is still deadly as ever on offense. Beverley is a great BACKUP pg. Yeah, they miss Delfino's consistent three point shooting, but on paper, this team kicks ass.

27-15 is nothing to be embarrassed about, especially in the loaded west. But this team is underachieving. I know I'm beating a dead horse and it's all about McFail this and McFail that, but these last few games have just really irritated me to no end. Even when they win, I don't feel good about it. The OKC game pretty much epitomized this team in a nutshell. Talent across the board, but no identity, no consistency, and no passion.

We'd probably be better playing Lin/Beverly in the last 5 minutes of every game. I'm so tired of watching Harden play Hero Ball and try to give himself 5 concussions per game.

I'm glad Beverly is back. I love the fight, and love the defense.

Rachel Nichols on TNT just mentioned she caught Jeremy in rare candid moment. She says he's a good soldier, humble, and always says the right things. But she said he had a rare moment of candor when answering questions about Beverley's return, when he told her "Of course I want to start, everyone wants to start...but hey, you gotta sacrifice for the team, right?"

Basically confirms he's gone at the end of the contract, traded or not. He won't make a fuss, and will do whatever Houston wants him to and be the good soldier and sacrifice and support the team, but he's not staying to be a backup. He'll go to the first team that gives him a starting position offer, probably even if it's less money. I guess this puts the kibosh on anyone who feels he's satisfied with 6th man of the year and will re-sign for less money to stay on the bench in Houston when his contract is up.

He's doing very well coming back. Lots of guys come back in a bit of a slump and have to play themselves into game shape, but he's looking like he's still got that energy, which is important since that energy is a key element of his play.

Yeah I usually give a guy 5 to 10 games to get back but he looks great and I'm very happy to see him.

I have to admit my timing on this thread was impeccable. :)

Beverley played great...and if the team continues to play like they did tonight, there isn't much room to complain.

For the record, I've always liked Beverley...just never liked the long leash McHale gives him while he constantly tugs at Lin's for every mistake he makes. It's obvious that Beverley plays with a lot of confidence all the time. I wish Lin would play like that as well. He used to, but you can see that confidence declining with each game.

McHale's belief (and long leash) with Bev has given him the confidence to make some plays. Let's see if he can do it consistently. Lin will be fine. It's a long season. We can't shoot 48.5% from the 3 every night (or on most nights). When we can't, we are going to need a confident Lin to help us make plays with ball movement. And I believe he will.

I don't like McHale/Sampson at all. Bev is a great guy, great energy, great grit, great hustle, great mental fortitude, did a really great job last night. No doubt. He did fit the starters well last night with a good result. But that's only part of the story.

McHale has not developed DMo or Lin and he's taking one of the top 5 in talent on the team in Lin's qualities and trying to reshape and minimize them. Lin has taken the team on his back and carried the team too many games for McHale and others to conveniently forget what he's capable of doing when he has his A game. How do you get to Lin's A game? Seems that's not a priority for him. Whether off the bench or starting, McHale has provided nothing but inconsistency to Lin while propping up Beverley. That's bad coaching and bad character. He's done the opposite of bringing out Lin's A game. That doesn't help the Rockets against opponents and situations where Lin's A game combined with other team mate's effort would get them over the top and win them games that without it, they would lose. And if Harden ever goes down, he sure needs Lin to step up and provide a good part of the production Harden does.

I certainly hope so. But McFail destroy Lin's confidence. The only solution is trade Lin away so McFail with Harden ISO and first or second round exit and no chamionsiop.
