Weird to see this headline. Good thing Lin and Beverley are playing well too.
Even Shawn Livingston is balling for Brooklyn.

It's the McHale curse (blessing?). You play for him once and when you leave you excel. Does that mean if Lin gets traded there will be Linsanity x2?

Happy for both of them especially considering the drama they went through.

Lowry had to go, and netted us the main piece in the Harden trade so it worked out for both sides. Lowry is going to get paid.

But Morey is probably kicking himself for letting Dragic walk. 7.5M/yr for Dragic is looking like a steal, and if things continue like this Dragic is going to decline his 4th year player option anyway for a faster payraise. And even if he did pick it up, Dragic would've been pretty easy to unload at that price.

Problem is, Dragic didn't want to play for McHale who has no clue what to do with the point guard position. It's incredible how they're winning. I thought they would be one of the worse teams in the west, they are in the playoffs and now they're even winning without Bledsoe. Marcus is also doing fine there!

It was Lowry who had issues with McHale, which mostly stemmed from his benching due to Dragic playing well. Dragic would be here if Morey gave him that 4th year player option.

Lowry and Dragic should thank the Rox for their big paychecks. They got playing time in Houston after being traded which other teams noticed that they had talent.

Houston system is a PG-killer and Mchale will not allow PGs to run the show. When you for play for the Rockets, everyone gets to be a Point Guard except the actual Point Guard. It's no coincidence they flourished after leaving the Rockets. I still think we need to change the system. If you watch the Suns play, when Dragic is given the ball most of the time and given keys to run the show, the offensive tempo is amazing. I believe Lin can do the same with the right pieces around him and given permission to run the offense. It just won't happen under Mchale. :o

I think part of it has to do with the fact that Mchale is a big himself.

But PHX already knew dragic had skills lol.
He was like the best backup PG in the NBA at the time like how Bledsoe backed up CP3.
He just was backed up by a MVP in Nash.

We are lucky he came back

well, they shouldn't have traded him knowing that Nash was pretty much at the end of his career. Dragic should've been their future if they thought he was gonna be that good. They obviously didn't think so at that time. You're right. Lucky for them he came back.

They did though when he dropped 22pts in the 4th Q in the playoffs against the spurs they knew he was a ball player. It happens it had to nash to when we drafted him and traded him to dallas then he came back lol. May we see the same thing with marshall is the question

I guess the suns are great at doing this

I love it when people who didn't follow the Rockets before Lin came along just make things up like this.

“I really like the Rockets, it is a great organization. I really liked playing for Kevin McHale. He’s a great coach, great guy. He was a player so he has had a lot of experience. He helped a lot with me this season, taught me how to run a team. I hope that in the future, I am still going to be with him.”

As BaYBaller already stated, the reason that Dragic didn't sign with the Rockets was solely because they couldn't agree on the fourth year player option. Probably a bad decision for the Rockets with the benefit of hindsight because Dragic is just a better player than Lin is right now. He probably wouldn't be putting up quite the same big numbers but he's undoubtedly more polished, poised, and consistent, which a team that's shifted to contending mode would benefit from. Every time I get excited about Lin he just goes through stretches of inconsistent/poor games, so here's to hoping he can finally be consistently great like he was last week.

Management clearly did not want to make the brewing discord public knowledge, but information had begun filtering out that McHale had angered a number of veterans.

Rockets coach Kevin McHale didn’t have the best relationship with some of his players last season. In fact, Kyle Lowery basically came out and said that neither he nor Goran Dragic would play for McHale past the season.

And he was right. He now plays for the Raptors and Dragic is with the Suns.

I proved you wrong by showing you quotes straight out of Dragic's mouth on how he loved McHale, felt he grew as a PG under him, and was hoping to keep playing for him. Instead of just admitting you spoke out of ignorance, you end up making yourself look even more foolish by posting some blog commentaries that have nothing to do with what you claimed. Both those links you posted are are commentating on LOWRY's beef with McHale from this Chronicle article: http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2012/05/disgruntled-lowry-feels-its-his-time-to-move-on/

Now please tell me where in that article that it says Dragic didn't want to play for McHale, can't wait to hear what facts you try and twist this time.

Just because a player/coach/GM/diplomat/politician say something in public doesn't mean it is necessarily fact. That was the main reason for my first quote:

That's not true. Can you absolutely sure that what those articles say are wrong? This sounds like it has something to do with what I just said:

Rockets coach Kevin McHale didn’t have the best relationship with some of his players last season. In fact, Kyle Lowery basically came out and said that neither he nor Goran Dragic would play for McHale past the season.

Even if this person is wrong, can you say that it's a case of someone "who didn't follow the Rockets before Lin came along just make things up like this"? Those writers probably aren't insiders (maybe they are) but are you sure you can say that you have the knowledge of the absolute fact while those writers are completely ignorant? If that's really the case then I guess what you're saying is true cuz I only get my info from sources like those.

You can't seriously be stubbornly sticking to this the way you are?

That Dream Shake blog has nothing to do with Dragic so it does nothing to substantiate your claim that he didn't want to play for Mchale.

That ngngnsports.com site (that's so legit that it couldn't even spell Lowry's name right) states that Lowry said "neither he nor Goran Dragic would play for McHale past the season." Now, click on the actual link over that sentence and its source is that Chron article, which actually says this:

Lowry does not believe he and Goran Dragic, his successor as the starting point guard this season, will both return to the roster next season.

Lowry said he didn't think both of them would be back next season because of each of them wanted starting positions. Says NOTHING about Dragic not wanting to play for McHale. It was always well-documented that Dragic thought highly of McHale as a coach and had a good relationship with him, but go ahead and keep fabricating assertions while rejecting the glowing praise that came straight out of the man's mouth lol.

Good to hear Lowry and Dragic playing better now. They were borderline in the month of November and were in every trade rumor.

Again, more about McHale lol, such an enigma.

Dragic did at least have discussion with Morey and decided on leaving Houston, Dragic wanted his 4th year player option. Dragic will be 29 years old on his 4th year option, it's good security to have. Lets say that Dragic didn't feel confident that about his ability, he secured himself a nice payday. But, if he does play well he can negotiate a bigger contract when he is 28 and at his peak. The way the contract played out, it seemed that Dragic was thinking about money and his future and to reduce risk.

Where as someone like Jeremy Lin only received 1 contract offer from Morey and didn't get one from Knicks. Lin will be 26 years old at the end of his current contract.

Lowry is Lowry, he is good when he is healthy and inconsistent when he is playing through his injuries. Morey traded him, Houston was a borderline tanking team at the time of the trade. They obviously didn't need 2 pg making 8 million a year each. People already bish when Lin making 8 million, imagine having double that?

Sometimes NBA is about business.

I have to shake my head a little bit reading this thread. Clearly, some of you, uh... "newer" Rockets fans need a history lesson on what happened with the Dragic situation.

-Dragic negotiated with the Rockets FIRST, and only AFTER did Morey not give in on the 4th year player option did Dragic seek employment elsewhere. Obviously, this is not what a player who does not want to play for McHale would do.
-A player-option is a benefit to the player and the player alone, so of course it could be a sticking point in negotiations.
-Morey was CLEARLY planning on targeting the 2015 off-season given how the roster's salary was structured, with basically everything coming off the books in 2015. The 4th year player option had the potential to severely hamper that cap flexibility.
-Morey began negotiations with Lin AFTER the Dragic situation played out. Lin was basically the "back-up" plan, because the team had no legit PGs on the roster at that time. I'm sure Les' ties with China also played a role here as well. Remember that at this point everybody thought this would be another rebuilding year for HOU.
-Lin was basically offered the same 3-yr/7.5M contract that Dragic turned down. Then when reports started flying that NYK would match (Lin was a restricted FA), Morey upped the final year payment that basically made it very hard for NYK to match.
-Then of course the Harden trade happened after that.

In sum, if Morey gave in on that 4th year player option:
-Dragic would still be here, that could not be any clearer
-Lin would not be here, most likely he would still be with NYK, and there would be a gazillion 40-page threads on how "Woodson hates Lin" and "iso-Melo."

The Dragic contract looks GREAT in hindsight. Yes he would be 29 at the end, but those are still your prime years. You want more experienced players, players in their prime when you have championship aspirations. I don't blame Morey for how things played out, he worked with the information he had. At the time, Lin looked like a relative low-risk (3-yr contract)/high reward player. It's just unfortunate Morey got burned on this one, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Those vets that are refered to were
Lowry because he is a malcontent, and had issue last year w/ Toronto.
Budinger because he lost all his minutes to some scrub who couldn't shoot named Chandler Parsons.
Dalembert because he sucks and thought he had moves like Olajuwon, to be fair McHale really should of played him instead of Patterson at the 5.
All were gone after that year, Rox don't **** with malcontents.

For the most part players love McHale...
Quit making **** up, if you don't know just ask.
