What Do You Think About D12's Post Game?

Post#1 » by ChokeFasncists » Fri Feb 14, 2014 10:10 am

What do you think about D12's post game now in comparison to the beginning of the season?

He has been working with Dream and McHale, two of the best post players of all time along with Dawson. (Ewing wasn't bad, but doesn't come close.)

Magic fans think it's hopeless for him to improve, what do you think? Did it surprise you? What do you think he can be towards the end of the season or in next season?

lol we have yet to see the dwight of orlando. not hard to best the laker dwight.

he never had mentors like hakeem and mchale to work with him. i think there's still hope, its just gonna take more time then i thought. might show some slight improvements 2nd half of this season. in the offseason i expect him to be working like hell at improving his post game.

I say vastly improved since he was a disappointment early on in the season.

I never really took note of how he played in Orlando so can't compare but I've been impressed with his post game as of late including his ability to finish with the left. My only gripe is his TO rate especially when he gets the ball down high.

I thought Hakeem was in Jordan for most of last year... so Hakeem really hasn't been able to work with him until maybe recently.

Why should we care what Orlando fans think?
Meatcookie is right Hakeem only worked with him in the summer, and I think Dwight was still recovering in the beginning of the year, I don't know how long it takes to fully recover from a herniated disk, but I remember in the summer McHale mentioned Dwight was still recovering.

Dwight has pretty much beasted on every 5 in the league this year except for Perkins... I think he is doing fine.

Hard to say how much improvement is due to the extra work or just from him working his way back from his back surgery. He does seem more patient though. And try as ORL fans might, Dwight did post elites post numbers during his heyday in ORL

And Bargani

Going from, IMO, nothing to what he is now is a major improvement but I still do not think he is that good post move wise. He needs to run more P&R. That is when he can get easy buckets and is rather unstoppable. Rockets lack a halfcourt game

about same (comparing to his orlando day)
can score over smaller size center playing one-on-one
still have problem against bigger taller center

Hakeem spend most of his time in Jordan studying Islam
he only return to States for special occasion
but he will still return during off-season for post-up game lesson
i remember i read somewhere it is 100-200k per
pretty good money for a retired athlete

he gets called a lot for offensive fouls and travelling while posting up but I blame the refs more than him.

really though they should just lob the ball to him on every possession, that's been the best offense for Houston

He looks better. His spin moves are tight, his left hook doesn't look terrible. If anything, he doesn't look injured. All of the talk about him losing his athleticism over the summer was premature.

Yeah this has been the common complaint from every team's fanbase who has watched Dwight. He posts eye-popping PnR numbers as the roll man (1.35 PPP this season) but mediocre numbers on post-ups (0.79 PPP), yet he posts up on 52.6% of plays he is involved in and only is the PnR roll man 6.9% of the time! Ridiculous.

Furthermore, we have THREE superb PnR ballhandlers in Harden, Lin, and Parsons!

It's Hakeem's fault. Dwight's gotta get his money's worth from those private lessons. Or maybe it was Ewing.

Interesting. Perhaps that's why it seems like he has improved quite a bit recently?

On the other hand, they did work during the summer and Mchale/Dawson are nothing to sneeze at.

Magic fans have watched Dwight for many years and him bringing them to the Finals. It's interesting and might provide some insight in his game. I'd be happy if Dwight proves them wrong.

So last year it was Lin recovering, this year it's Dwight.

Agreed with others about PnR, here's an article on this topic:

Check out Barkley's feedback on Howard as a player, good but not great.

I've been trying to figure out what is stopping Howard from becoming the next Shaq/Olojuwon/Robinson/Ewing etc. He just banks his entire game on his athleticism which is fine if you got it, but you'll always be a different player 10 and 15 years later. Olojuwon matured by creating a variety of moves that were ahead of his time and improving himself offensively and as a team player. Horward cannot continue to rely on alleys and the short passes, he'll have to learn how to be dependable as a post up player. Having Olojuwon around is handy but the league has probably figured out those moves by now.
* Since 1985, Jeremy Lin became one of 15 players to have scored at least 20 points, seven assists and a steal for six games in a row, including 136 points in 5 starts beating out Iverson, Jordan and O'Neal :D

A new article on this topic:

Dwight: I'm Just A Lot Healthier Than I Was Last Year

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/231983/Dwight-Im-Just-A-Lot-Healthier-Than-I-Was-Last-Year

Dwight Howard was significantly healthier and happier in this year's All-Star Game.

Last season, Howard was plagued by his return from back surgery and an injured shoulder while also playing for a Los Angeles Lakers' team that appeared to be underachieving.

“I’m just a lot healthier than I was last year,” Howard said. “When you’re healthy you can do a lot more things on the floor. I don’t think people understood that. They looked at all the negative things that came out of Orlando that were brought to LA, not on my part. I’m healthier than I was last season and I’m having a lot of fun.”
