DWIGHT or ASIK?

i feel like dwight is not a big upgrade over asik
asik started the past two games and rockets blow out 2 consecutive
asik is elite defender and screener and he does not waste possessions
dwight is better at scoring but he waste too much offense possesion with turnovers and bad post ups
asik is better FT
dwight is paid way more than asik for minor upgrade
asik just fits better with team
he does not slow the fast pace offense
maybe we dwight might be more useful in playoffs when half court offense
but asik is better for fast pace

Seriously?
What is it with some fans and the "X" Player vs. "Y" Player mentality?
I am just thrilled that we have both guys on this team.

Aren't we 6-1 or something without Harden? Small sample size doesn't mean much.
Many have been saying for awhile though that we should rely less on Howard post-ups and utilizing him more on PnR's.

Why does Dwight want to play with an elite PG (Deron) if he doesn't want to do PnR?
Dwight is much better at catching oops and over-powering opponents, he is gonna come in handy against teams with weak or average interior defense.
Asik will be paid 15mil next year right? And he will get paid again with his next contract.

Asik played well tonight, he sets great screens, he plays solid PnR defense, he had a nasty block, only thing he didn't do is rebound as well as usual. Dwight has better hands and elevation and shot blocking but he slows down the game, changes the nature of the team. Tonight we saw some of last year's Rockets and it was fun to watch.

Really!
We have both which is better than having one or the other!

If Asik doesn't receive 11+ million on his next contract, it will be an absolute heist.
Dwight is paid about twice that.
I love Asik's style of play, but Dwight is probably about a 50% better overall player (or more) than O is.
So you're paying 230% premium for 50% better production. That's absurd, right?
Except in the NBA, your top 7 guys win you games in the playoffs.
Is a lineup of Bev/Lin, Harden, Parsons/Casspi, Jones, Asik more likely to win than Bev/Lin, Harden, Parsons/Casspi, Jones, Howard? I say "not a chance". Would I rather have Durant or LeBron than Howard? Well, yeah, duh, but not only are those guys not available, but it skirts the argument.
The problem is that it's virtually impossible to get players of Howard's caliber via trade. Superstar trades and FA signings are ALWAYS huge news because they just don't happen all that often, overall. We got one. He's a lot better than Asik. We still have Asik, who is easily one of the top backups in the league. Hell, we got two, with Harden, and in less than a year overall. Be happy.

We have the best Center Rotation in the entire league.
Why do we have to pick? Together they can do some serious damage in this league.

Wonder what our record would be if McHale had stuck with the Twin Towers? They had some quality wins over Portland and Dallas with that lineup. Then that first Clippers game happened and then the Lakers loss and everyone panicked. Well, it turns out we can't beat the Clippers even with a more conventional starting 5. Of course Asik's knee would have swollen up anyway so it doesn't matter but he wouldn't have been all butt hurt about the demotion.

i've wondered that myself

You know, Hubie Brown was doing a game for us and he echoed the same sentiment. He wished that there was more of a gradual introduction and let both players learn how to play with one another. Given a full years time to get everyone on board and everything together, a twin towers starting line up might have been possible by next November.
We match up terribly against the Clippers. After getting Big Baby and Danny Granger, they are really, really deep.

of course howard
what kind of question is that?

Dwight is pretty mobile himself, why can't he be running the floor?
Asik needs to work on his midrange, I hope he has been doing that for the past half a year? Then they can play together like Perk and Ibaka.

how can u choose asik when a rookie, who barely gets any playing time, (and is probably an illegal immigrant with an elder brother in the nba) got his first 20/20 against him?
doesnt matter, we keep both. i expect dwight to make a much bigger impact on the court next season. and hopefully a new coach who knows the difference between an "x" and an "o"

Not a huge fan of the twin towers lineup, but I would prefer it used as needed, and it would also be useful in getting Asik more minutes.
I was at the Portland game where they came back in the 4th. McHale used that lineup in the 2nd quarter because the Rockets weren't rebounding, and it didn't help. That surprised me though. Against a team like Memphis where you have to post playing bigs I think it would be useful. I also think it would be useful against a team like the Clippers.
The problem is the Rockets can't run their usual productive offense with both big guys on the floor.

.
I meant the first Portland game of the season Nov 5 @ Portland where Asik shut down LMA not the one two weeks ago.

twin towers can work IF we had a coach that uses a playbook. when the season started, i thought dwight and asik would see on avg 10-15min on the court together. its not them, its the system, or lack of one. if i knew mchale wasnt gonna do much with plays, then i'd never vouch for the tt lineup. that'll never work in iso ball

Dwight is more athletic, I take that. But to say Dwight is better than Asik, it is arguable. Asik has just been rusty this year. Last year, Asik was a monster on the boards and probably the best post defender in the league. And he had many really nasty dunks and countless efficient layups and haven't forced a lot shots causing turnovers like Dwight have. There is a reason Shaq and Charles Barkley don't believe in Dwight.

forgot to mention this, i dunno why there's even a thread to this. did the op mean we keep asik and trade dwight in the offseason? i usually dont post in threads like this, but im bored so w/e
both are similar in defense and rebounding. dwight being an athletic big gives him the edge. on offense, other than being 7ft tall (dwight is 6'10.25 in shoes btw), dwight is as good or better at everything. asik can only get garbage pts. picks too, but dwight is being lazy on that, eh can set better picks.
so unless u wanna trade dwight, there's no reason to pick asik over him. a center who can defend and rebound, or a center who's athletic, and can defend, rebound, and score? hmm...i'll have to get back to you
