Daryl Morey has signed Dexter Pittman to a deal to finish this season. He also has a non-guaranteed contract for next season.
Greg Smith is to be waived to make the roster spot available.

Wow!
What more can you ask for? I'm in awe right now. I grew up right up the street. Everybody's dream that played basketball in Houston was to be a Rocket."
http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/25216 ... -im-in-aweYa, wassup with Camby?
I guess reasons to sign him is that he's blocking shots in DLeague, he's a local product, he could act as an enforcer, he has championship experience and he plays in the Spurs system. 6 more fouls!

what this also means is that smith was no way back to health to contribute anything this yr anyway, so cutting him probably makes sense...i was surprised about pittman signing though...i guess camby and rockets couldn't come to an agreement.

Maybe Camby just was not ready to come back.

Well, he thinks he is ready.
http://houston.cbslocal.com/2014/02/27/ ... situation/I guess it's just that the Rockets think he's too injury prone. (and too old?)

Maybe they brought Pittman in for his championship experience. He won a championship with the Heat in
2013 (edit) 2012.

So Morey thinks we are too nice and could use a thug? (the first block wasn't bad)

I'm rather shocked by this.
Smith is GOOD.
Pittman has not been.
Why, again?
I suppose we do somewhat desperately need insurance, but it looks like we just gave up a valuable asset for free?
I can't recall that happening before on Morey's watch...

We can always bring Smith back in the off season but we lost his Bird rights by waiving him since he's been here 3 years.

Marcus Camby, sidelined since preseason foot surgery, wants to come back and play with the Rockets. The 39-year-old center spent the better part of the summer this season with the team before a torn plantar fascia led to his release in late October.
I seriously thought it says "99-year-old".
Worse, that didn't cause me any pause.

Smith: injured (out for the season?), expiring, unlikely to be retained in the off-season
Pittman: healthy, 1+1 = summer trade chip
Even if Pittman sucks, at least he's actually healthy to play... and if for some reason no team ends up offering Greg Smith a more money than the Rockets will be willing to pay him the Rockets could still bring him back. It's not like not having his bird rights is going matter.

unless morey plans on using pittman to chokeslam the opposing team's best player in the 2nd round, he's is a waste of a roster spot. smith was a perfect 3rd pf/c off the bench, and he had that less than mil contract for one or two more years.

Smith's contract ends this season so he would have been a free agent regardless, except now he's unrestricted instead of restricted so we can't match any offer.

we could've kept him for next season and it would be worth every penny. now we got this pittman piece of sht. if he does have anything to offer on the court, i'll believe when i see it. till then, he can go fk himself

This guy knew how to take care of his body, sitting out games with the slightest hint of discomfort.

there's nothing stopping the rockets from signing Smith in the offseason, if he wants to be here.
