Realistic Trade Offer
Hi, Detroit Pistons fan here. Not sure if this has been proposed to you guys already as I could not find anything in your guys' forum but here it goes!
Detroit Trades:
Josh Smith
Tony Mitchell
Houston Trades:
Jeremy Lin
Terrence Jones
2014 1st round pick (#25)
Why Pistons do it?
I watched a lot of the Rockets games this season (Dwight and Harden were on my fantasy team) and the more I watched I became a fan of Terrence Jones. I really feel as if he can complete our big man rotation as a 6th man Taj Gibson type role for our team. I think he can play at PF well next to Drummond or Monroe at the C spot. Lin would be an expiring for us and a decent backup PG and the 1st round pick would make us pull the trigger.
Why Rockets do it?
You guys are in complete win now mode and what better player (realistically) can you guys grab other than Josh Smith? We all know how he and Dwight are best friends and their styles of play can really fit well together. Smith can be that third star for your team as he can fit perfectly next to Dwight and Harden. From the outside looking in guys like Love and Melo are close to impossible joining your guys' team. A guy like Smith can really help you guys to being legit contenders. Tony Mitchell has elite athleticism and potential to be a nice role player for you guys. You finally get rid of Lin and lose a first round pick that your franchise won't even notice.
Thoughts?

at 13.5 million per year it should be the Pistons sending draft picks to the Rockets not the other way around.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

A lot of people don't realize that worst case scenario for HOU is just letting Asik and Lin's contract expire next year. They are both productive players (especially Asik, without him we have literally no back-up rim protector), so there is no need to trade them this year UNLESS Morey actually has a 3rd star lined up to come here, and I'm pretty sure Morey is aiming a little higher than Josh Smith for a 3rd star.

I love the Yo Yo on Asik. One day he is borderline all-star, then next he is a bum.
McHale killing his own players. Morey wants another year of this.

None of those guys will ever wear a Rockets jersey, which proves my point that a relotively small deal can net you guys a realistic deal for a guy like Smith.
Reaching for guys like that show he does not believe in Harden but aiming for a guy like Smith will show the confidence in Harden and crew to get the job done.

Re: Realistic Trade Offer
I think realistically speaking, the Rockets have lined up their contracts to have a large cap space by next off season, they would have to be floored right now to mess up that plan.
So no, right now this seems very unlikely, I do think Josh Smith would be a huge upgrade to Jones right now because 1. most folks don't realize how much the rockets defensive woes stem from him last year 2. Smith's horrific offensive year mask that he was still quite good defensively. I think under Houston's go go offense Smith should be a lot better.
But lets be realistic here, if your looking to trade a big money player who just signed a 4 year deal last year, it speaks volumes on what your team's perception of his value is. so as you can see the leverage is pretty bad on the Piston's side, meanwhile, Lin and Asik are expiring contracts and major rotation player on a 50+ win team. the main knock on their value has not really been their play relative to their cap hit, it's that most owners probably don't want to fork over their actual pay check next year.
If the Rockets miss out on big stars next year, then I think they could plausibly look into Josh Smith. They wouldn't even have any cap issue then, Jones' strait up for Smith would already work, but if by that point it seems like it would be Detroit who will be giving up the picks.
I have repeatedly said that Paul MIllsap is by FAR the most likely player the Rockets would trade for this off season, because not only his play, but his contract lines up perfectly with their longer term plan.

Re: Realistic Trade Offer
Smith is not the type of player that I'd want, and I do not want to take on his contract.
I think that the Rockets only expressed interest in him when they thought that they could either get him on the cheap, or when they needed a backup plan in case other plans didn't work.

Re: Realistic Trade Offer
Josh Smith is not a star
adding a defensive player will not help the team defense unless you get all players commit to play defense

Re: Realistic Trade Offer
Absolutely not. Certainly not for this price. Come to think of it, not for any price. His lack of outside shooting makes him a poor fit.

His lack of outside shooting, his horrible ft %, his terrible shooting percentage overall, his poor decision making, his game that will not translate well with age (as he's getting older), his AWFUL shot selection, his terrible bball iq and his awful contract all make him a poor fit
I love seeing smith trades on the trades and transactions board because EVERYONE always says no...except Sacramento if they can give bad salary back
Here he asks us to give value for him

I'm not high on Josh Smith at all. Too dang expensive TBH.

Re: Realistic Trade Offer
Terrible trade off and not realistic in anyway. Josh is not what the rocket need want or looking for and does not do what they need. Terrible contract.

LOL I remember people wanting Josh Smith a couple of years ago, how things have changed!
But seriously, we don't need another headcase player as we've already got 2 and Mitchell guy I know nothing about.
