D.R.R. Morey

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Sun Jul 13, 2014 10:58 pm

If you're going to be a fan of the Houston Rockets then you have to accept that our GM is NBA equivalent of "Game of Thrones" author, George R.R. Martin.

You have a favorite player? NOT FOR LONG!!!

I'm a fan of the Rockets and of the Song of Ice & Fire series...and I realize now that they are pretty much the same thing. Every time that I think that I know what will happen, things go all askew, and we are forced to deal with new realities. Along the way we lose characters/players that we have grown to love.

Hopefully D.R.R. Morey can finish his story, unlike his counterpart.

Maybe if a Dragon can return to Westeros then one can return to Houston.

...this thread is for all of you who know what I'm talking about. :lol:

Honestly I don't know how Morey salvages this offseason into a success. He's effectively swapped Asik, Lin and Parsons for Ariza. That's not an even trade under any scenario. HOU still have decent cap space but who are they going to spend it on? Stephenson would seem redundant to Harden. Bledsoe might not be matched with a big contract offer given the Suns got Thomas. DET will likely match anything for Monroe. Best thing might be to split the available cap space up over the next two years on role players like Miller, Allen, Davis, Blatche, etc.

A sentence of Chinese that includes Morey's Chinese name is well enough to sum up his job in this off-season so far:

你莫雷我!(Trans: You shocked me Morey!!)
Watch NBA since 1998. Huge fan of A.C. Fiorentina, Spurs & Tim Duncan, Yao Ming & Linsanity, Brooklyn & Coney Island. Former Brooklyn Chinese resident.

Is it me or a lot of teams simply gave up this season?

Everyone is assuming that Spurs will repeat. Why even try.

When I first saw the thread title I thought it stood for Dance Dance Revolution Morey (yeah, I know that would be DDR instead of DRR, mental snafu). And I had this weird image of an overweight Morey on the disco dance floor tap dancing to stay ahead of the impending abyss. :lol:

It will be interesting to see where they go from here, but so far it does feel like this off-season has been smashed to pieces, much like the Red Viper's head.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Can we make player and character comparisons in this thread?

McGrady = Robert
Yao = Ned

They lost to the Blazers because of POOR coaching…certainly they had the team to beat SA. What was Houston's record against SA?

Cuban is not Tywin Lannister.

RC Buford/Big Poppa Pops is Tywin Lannister.

Sorry, I don't watch game of thrones, so most of this is lost on me.

I liken it to Star Wars, and Morey is George Lucas.

A beautiful story is written and is told. (Olajuwon)

Fans come from everywhere, it's huge. (Olajuwon and Drexler.)

Then he decides to tweak it, Greedo shot first, not Han. (Olajuwon, Drexler, Barkley and Pippen.)

New episodes coming out. (Changing of the Guard)

Jar Jar, F#$king Binks. (The Franchise Era.)

Not as good as the first incarnation but, yeah, it's okay. (Yao and Tmac.)

Sells Lucasfilms/Arts to Disney. (We get Harden and Dwight.)

Craps on the expanded universe and its fans, to make more films. (What is currently happening.)

Now I know that Morey wasn't around for Olajuwon etc, but I am just drawing some Parallels.

Who is Joffrey?

Funny this thread popped up. I heard the comparison of the Rockets off-season being like the Red Wedding today...

Wade = Joffrey

Pekovic = Gregor Clegane

Lance Stephenson = Cersei Lannister (hot, but mental)

Bosh = Bron (loyal to the money)

Derrick Rose = Doran Martell
AKA: Sparey Spareman

Return to Houston Rockets
