Texans play Cowboys Oct 5 then Rockets play Mavs a couple days later.

Gonna be weird seeing Parsons in another uniform.

I might cry the first time :(

He's my favorite player...the only thing that could be worse is if he signed with the Jazz (Lakers would be as bad)

Eh Parsons was fun but a little overrated. I think Ariza might actually be a better fit and I'm glad Houston didn't match.

I just wish this team had a better bench. Right now, I think this team is going to struggle if depending so heavily on the starters.

Lowe on the Rockets

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nba-w ... ht-howard/

NBA Windows: The Rockets’ Missing Third Superstar and the NBA’s Continuity Problem

The NBA has always been about opportunity: When one team’s window opens, another’s often closes. This year, more than any in recent memory, is all about these windows: superstars in new cities, icons nearing retirement, general managers with a lot to prove, and franchises with little room for error. Grantland will be examining these windows for the next 30 days as we gear up for what could be a classic NBA season.

♦♦♦

Here’s a scary thought for Houston fans: What if the Rockets already missed their best chance to win a title with a James Harden–Dwight Howard core?

If you dare bring this up to Daryl Morey, the team’s GM, be warned he’ll reject the notion before you’ve finished floating it: “My response would be, first of all, no,” he says.

Morey has reason to remain confident despite an unfulfilled tease of an offseason that saw Houston nearly build a championship favorite by rounding third with Chris Bosh, deal away two valuable backups (Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik) to clear cap space for that dashed Bosh pursuit, and watch Chandler Parsons, in free agency a year earlier than necessary, go clubbing with Mark Cuban.

Click here for more 2014-15 NBA preview content.

The Rockets rebounded with Trevor Ariza, a quality 3s-and-defense wing, on a four-year deal that carries a salary about $7 million below Parsons’s and descends over time. Houston snagged a more valuable first-round pick from New Orleans than the one it gifted the Lakers as the Jeremy Lin salary sweetener. The war chest also includes Terrence Jones, a big trade exception, and several high-upside guys on minimum contracts. They could have max cap room as early as this summer to resume the hunt for that elusive third star.

Morey really believes that the Rockets will be better in April than they were last season, and Houston may have more trade assets than anybody else among the league’s top dozen teams.

But Houston enters this season a bit worse than it finished 2013-14. The occasional step back has always been part of doing business, but the price of suffering one is higher than ever for a would-be contender built around veteran free-agent signings.1 Those contracts are so short now, requiring teams to prepare almost immediately for their expiration — and the next phase of team-building.

McHale says the PF position is open for competition. More reason I dislike him. I though T Jones was better than expected last season and gets less respect than deserved by this organization.

The closer we approach this season the better I feel about this team rather than how I felt after bosh ho'd us and parsons theft

I'm seeing that pit bull mentality that Artest gave this team when he was here

I agree. While Parsons was a fun player to have in town, Ariza should be able to match his on-court production.

I've said it a bunch, but there is a major problem on the bench. Maybe Canaan and Daniels can prove me wrong, but I think the Rockets need some serious upgrades.

Any of you guys know if preseason games will be shown on TV? I don't have a TV, but I will find one if they broadcast the games.

Who is going to make it?

Is basically Covington vs. Garcia, Dorsey vs. Adrien for two spots, I asume Powell is out 100%.

I think in the end the vets get the spots and the Rockets roster looks like this,

Beverley-Smith-Canaan
Harden-Terry-Johnson
Ariza-Garcia-Daniels
Jones-Papanikolau-Adrien
Howard-Motiejunas-Capela

With a likely trade during the season for a back-up Center, with maybe Terry, Canaan and Motiejunas involved.

Capela with groin strain, out for possible 6 weeks.

That sucks. I was really hoping to see something from him during the preseason, but hopefully this will force Morey to get a backup center. How we can go from Asik to the current arrangement is troubling.

I can't wait to watch TJONES again and I'm hoping his 3 ball has really improved.
