Parsons doesn't deserve the hate he gets here. He was willing to sign here for less ($48m/4 years) than what Dallas offered him ($46m/3 years). $12m a year is fair market value for him, esp with the cap going up. I don't care if Ariza is a better defender. Parsons was the glue guy we desperately need right now. Harden is not a leader.

He's a Maverick now and insulted Houston on the way out. He's wack and not worth the money.

The Rockets would be in much better shape with Howard and Jones healthy, but they're not. Parsons wouldn't change a thing... well opponents would score more so there's that.

I'm not happy he insulted Houston, even if there is some truth to his statement.
That said, people saying he left Houston for the money are not being accurate.

No, that's true but he sure took the money. I think Cuban overpaid and Morey made the right decision.

In my mind, he can get all the love he wants in Dallas. Dallas is lame so he fits fine.

Was he lame when he shaved his head for a Houston fan with cancer? Or lame when he ordered a limo for a Houston fan's prom? Or lame when he was willing to give an autograph for a Houston fan who just crashed into his car?

If he really wanted to go to Dallas he wouldn't have counteroffered the 48/4 deal to Houston.

He is a MAVERICK now. **** him. Obviously he's not a bad dude, but on the court and against the Rockets, I want him to fail.

God, you sound like a Lin groupie.

For the record (coming from a parsons fan) that shaving his head for the fan was lame. I was expecting him to actually shave it, instead of just get a buzz

It seemed kind of like he just wanted to get a new haircut and saw an opportunity for some good press (can't blame him, but from how it was talked about i, and I remember others on this board, talked about how it was a lame attempt)

He's a MAVERICK now because of Morey not because of him.

Considering his hair was part of his signature look and got him a modeling gig I think it was a worthy effort. Maybe he didn't want to go full Edward Norton in American History X. I'm not that cynical to believe in the good press angle. Does JJ Watt's charity really to do good or is it just to help his brand?

Nobody faults Parson for taking the money. Parsons is lame because he:

- Called Houston a dirty city
- Signed his contract in a club taking obnoxious selfies with Mark Cuban
- Whined about being offended by Morey, when Morey is the one that allowed him to get paid early
- Got all butthurt about Harden saying he and Dwight were the cornerstones of the team, like he's some star of their caliber
- Insinuated he was going to try to steal Dwight after next year because he’s the self proclaimed best recruiter in the NBA
- Says he left Houston so easily (don't care if he was fed that line, you wouldn't hear a true class act like Scola, Battier, Hayes, etc. go along with that)
- Boasted about being the best SF in the Blazers series, which not only ended up looking silly but was confirmed afterwards to have really rubbed the Blazers the wrong way and given them added motivation

Ariza on the other hand: has no ego and impacts the game even when his shot isn't falling, just shuts his mouth and puts his head down to play, is a premier wing defender and major reason for our #1 defense this season, is a battled tested playoff performer and NBA champion. And as far as being a leader goes, Wexler, who's way more connected to the team than any of us, says the team had various locker room issues last year and Ariza has been a welcome addition in that regard as a mature, respected veteran leader of this team.

I have no issue with anyone that still cheers for Parsons, but please respect the perspective of fans who don't feel the same way and try to look objectively at the comparison instead of just getting caught up in nostalgia when it comes to Parsons.

But there's no denying the defensive impact the 6-foot-8 Ariza has made for the Rockets.

Houston has gone from decent to dominant defensively. The Rockets, with Ariza joining Howard and point guard Patrick Beverley as proven stoppers in the starting lineup, have the league's stingiest defense so far this season.

Houston ranked 12th in the NBA in defensive rating last season, allowing 103.1 points per 100 possessions. That number has plummeted to a league-low 94.3 after 11 games -- 92.5 with Ariza on the floor.
...
Of course, Parsons hasn't exactly exploded out of the gates in Dallas, fighting through the worst shooting slump of his career. His numbers -- 14.0 points, 40.1 field goal percentage, 34.8 3-point percentage, 2.3 assists -- are significantly down from last season and lower across the board than Ariza's this season.
...
“They’re both top-shelf small forwards,” Mavs president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said. “You could sit here and compare apples and oranges, but they both put their own unique stamp on the position.

“We both came away with probably our best-case scenario at the small forward spot.”

So go Rockets and go Trevor Ariza!!!!

I'm on the Parsons' corner. Morey could have kept him and signed Ariza.

This game going to show McHale's qualities as coach.

Parsons didn't "take the money". He offered to stay in Houston for less money but gets no credit for that. I still don't get why Bosh coming or going would affect whether or not he was retained. I would be offended too by that. Plus Houston signed Ariza before Parsons even signed with Dallas. That was also wrong.

If Ariza was such an awesome leader why give him up for Courtney Lee who we then gave up for nothing to sign Jeremy Lin? Where was his mature leadership 5 years ago when his no-ego self was feuding with Aaron Brooks over shots?

trevor is way too good a player to come off the bench, and parsons def wasnt gonna be a super 6th man with a 12mil per contract. i do wonder if bosh would've came here if he signed parsons before cuban's offer. 10-12mil for 3 years. im not a fan of morey's offseason. there were plenty of 2-5mil players we could've signed to fill any needs.
