I'm reading that it is 3 years, 18 million with a non-guaranteed fourth year for $5M.

Interesting contract. Less than what I was expecting for Beverley.

I hope it is only 3 years because I really hate this contract.

why?

is a cheap contract compared to what the rest of the free agents are getting

we do need a more talented starting point guard and make beverley a backup

Even when healthy he's a below average ball handler and passer and creator. He only won that skills competition because of his shooting, which is really only good in the corners. His defense was often bad last year too but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say it was due to injuries not effort. I think he should be the backup, an $6m a year backup sure but that's not such a big number anymore.

Maybe sign Cory Joseph. Surely the Spurs are out of money by now.

He's a fine ball handler and is actually a nice compliment to Harden. I'm happy to have him back and providing some team continuity.

He was a 2.3 assist/turnover ratio which was good for 53rd best in the entire NBA. Same # as Tony Parker and Damian Lillard which is well above average.

Those two didn't have a ball dominant backcourt mate like harden. Most of the time Beverley just sets up in the corner.

That's A LOT of money for a guy averaging 10 points and 4 asst a night.

No it's not. It's actually a pretty good deal for the Rockets.

I disagree.
He's a below average offensive player with very little play making abilities. His obvious strength is on defense but even last season, he's shown his inability to contain any of the tops PGs in the league.

No point guard can be contained without a hand check and Bev has played really well within team defense concepts. He's good at staying in front of the opponent as the ball comes down the floor, thus ticking a few seconds off their shot clock.

He doesn't need to be a playmaker. He just needs to make shots, avoid turnovers and set the defensive tone. I think we'd all like him to hit 40% from 3, but other than that, he's absolutely done his job.

I think the Rockets will trade for another point like Lawson and Beverley will move into a reserve role, where he's an even better value than he is today.

Doesn't change the fact that he often brings the ball up and keeps turnovers down. He's not a classic assist point guard, but he still gets them while limiting mistakes as the data shows. If his ball handling was poor, it would show in the data.

Above average defender
average ball handler
average shooter
above average teammate

He doesn't initiate the plays. If we're just going by that stat then Bev's a better ball handler than Parker, Lilliard, Westbrook, Irving, Bledsoe, Thomas, Knight, Rose and MCW.

Sometimes he does and often times he brings the ball up. Either way he handles the ball and it shows in the data that he's average, at worst.

You said he was below average and I challenge that by providing a data point. He does handle the ball quite a bit, even if not as much as the guys you stated, and yet doesn't turn it over much. That does not suggest he's below average.

You can believe your data point but I'll trust my lying eyes.

But you always look for faults. Turnovers are a real measure.

My lying eyes say he does what's asked fairly effectively, although I wish his 3 ball would improve.
