I'm thinking this mostly seems not great.
Smith killed us in some playoff games, and killed others in some playoff games, and on average wasn't bad.

meh...i didnt want him back...we didnt need him to beat the mavs...he did help us beat the clips, but that is it. over a long season, i didn't want him. he is decent for short term, but didnt want him re-signed. now we get to use the MLE for KJ.

From a management perspective side of the forum...did anyone else hear RealGM get name-dropped on Sports Talk 790 today because of this news? :)

What has KJ done that should warrant him getting paid over Smith? This is disappointing.

Now LAC can deal with Smith/Jordan FT shooting down the stretch.

I can't act like i'm not disappointed. Rumor is that he felt their were too man bigs on the roster, but the Rockets were willing to pay him more. I liked Smith even though he wasn't the most consistent player. You never knew when he'd explode and look like an all-star. Most importantly, in my eyes, he made Jones an expendable trade asset. Now the Rockets are mentioned as being interested in Lawson. Im not so sure the Rockets should move either Jones or Dmo right now.

It feels kinda like last year after we missed out on Bosh and then lost Parsons. The Rockets looked like they were in a bad spot but Morey shown that he always has a plan. Im confident Morey will make some good "under the radar" moves.

Agreed, Red.

Last summer the Rockets were looking very, very thin on the bench and folks had their concerns but Morey came through.

My primary disappointment is the loss of trade flexibility. Smith is a nice player, but to me, his value was in making the roster flexible for trade.

when was the last time our final roster is the same as training camp?
there will be trade
whether it will make us better is different story

we definitely need another playmaker
should do all right against most team with Motiejunas, Brewer, Thornton off the bench
giving up Jones for a PG is not going to improve our team
you don't dig a hole to fill another hole
not until we know how Harrell will do in NBA

C - Howard, Capela, Dorsey
PF - Jones, Motiejunas, Harrell
SF - Ariza, Brewer, Dekker, Papanikolaou
SG - Harden, Thornton, Johnson
PG - Beverley, Terry, Prigioni

16 players (including our rookie)
simple way is to waive Dorsey or some trade is coming before season begin

i know
the guy has potential to be all defensive team player
if only if he can shoot better
his shot isn't too long or too short
most is going too much right or left
he has lot of work to do
don't know how much he will improved this offseason

You didn't include him in your depth chart so there's actually 17 players

Losing Smith to a rival really sucks. Offseason grade: D

Terry hasn't signed yet. I don't think we should sign him either.

this is what i got last time
look like he hasn't sign yet
i think he will back (for his leadership, h'e's more vocal leader than Harden and Howard)
unfortunately we didn't get to see Johnson play in summer league
i don't trust Johnson and Prigioni as our only back PG

I don't either but the goal should be trade for a starting PG, have Bev be the backup PG and Johnson be 3rd string PG. Signing Terry puts a wrench in that.
