JVG on 790: Yao, Harden criticism, high expectations

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Fri Sep 9, 2016 11:23 pm

Listen to this great interview with Jeff Van Gundy on The Bottom Line with Adam Clanton & Sean Jones. He discusses Yao Ming as a player and a man, getting into how frustrated he got with the officiating. He also discusses his expectations for the Rockets (50 wins, an offensive juggernaut if healthy). He voices his support of Mike D'Antoni and defends him as a coach. He also hammers on the idiocy that surrounds a lot of the criticism of James Harden from reporters and fans.

21:47 in length. I guess when you have JVG on the phone you don't care about commercial breaks. He still sounds like he's a Rocket to the core.

Thanks for sharing this! I love JVG and still wish he was back as our coach moving into this season.

Loved all of his comments about Yao and Harden(I thought the Nash analogy was pretty spot on), not so sure I agree about his thoughts on MD'A, though I do agree that if healthy and things click then they should be pretty damn good offensively, but I think most of us expected that and it's not what really concerns me so much.

Anyways, always good to hear JVG talk basketball, and especially Rockets basketball.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

The only happiness out of knowing JVG is not coming back to coach us, is I get to watch him on TV, and he kicks ass there.

Very good listen per JVG's usual standard!

I talked to a colleague who is a Knicks fan and asked him if he ever felt like JVG still seemed like part of the franchise. Granted, the guy is younger than me and probably didn't follow basketball as closely while JVG was there, but he did not seem to think it was the case.

JVG still feels like part of the Rockets to me.

I hope JVG will coach again, he is a really good coach. I know he is stubborn, but he is too smart not to adapt and change...
Hi Clutchie, I love you... :kiss
