Motiejunas' options

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Thu Nov 24, 2016 5:21 pm

So now the deadline has passed where Donatas Motiejunas could have signed and still have been eligible to be traded at the deadline. I'm thinking that has been the plan from his side for a while.

If the Rockets choose not to sign him and he goes to Europe, how long do they retain his RFA rights?

I am still thinking that someone in the NBA may take the risk on him. I'm curious now if the Rockets would match. It sounds like they were talking about a multi-year deal; but it was pulled. Are they just looking at him as a trade piece? I hope not as the team could use him and his ability.

Is a sign and trade still possible?

Rockets pulled another offer?

What is going on here? What is BJ asking for?

At this point BJ has probably lost his client some significant money

If it's longer than two guaranteed years they probably shouldn't

The Nets have signed him to a 4 year, $37M deal (last two years non-guaranteed).

Surely the Rockets will match this one.

Rockets should match...i think his back will be ok...at 9mil/yr for 2 seasons is a good deal in the nba now. match it and use him as a trade piece going forward for a 2nd superstar.

So if we match (we should), we cut...Bobby Brown? Tyler Ennis?
Trade McDaniels for a draft pick from a team where he can get minutes?

cut either brown or ennis...i dont like either of them. i would like to keep McDaniels and he will likely get more minutes now with Ariza pulling a hamstring.

Though the Nets signed the Rockets' restricted free agent to a reported four-year, $37-million offer sheet Friday, the terms of the deal are extremely team-friendly, with plenty of protections baked in.

Because of the ruptured disk that cut his 2015-16 campaign in half and nixed a trade to the Detroit Pistons, the Rockets were reportedly unwilling to offer Motiejunas guaranteed money beyond the first year of any deal, and the Nets' offer reportedly doesn't even go that far. The contract will pay the 7-footer a guaranteed $5 million, but the team can void the remaining $3.5 million for the 2016-17 season if they waive him before Jan. 10, Wojnarowski reports.

The only reason they might not match is that Dmo can't be traded the rest of this season and has veto rights for a calender year. Could get in the way of creating max space if they have to. I think they should match, but wanted to state why they wouldn't

my only concern is that if we match, i hope DMo has a pro attitude and will play well for us. We really need another big guy when Capela gets in foul trouble for the rest of this year. i hope he doesn't have somewhat of an Asik face...lol

I still think the Rockets will match and wait till offseason to trade him anyway, so not being able to trade him for this season isn't a big concern of them. I think they really need him this season anyway with Capela still developing.

Yeah he has a no trade clause for a whole calendar year so they can't trade him until next december unless he approves. I also would hope he doesnt eat into Clint's minutes. Clint has been very good since he got a longer leash. I want him to eat Nene's minutes and Brewers, in the way of moving Dekker's minutes to the 3 instead of the 4, where Dmo will play
