Zhou Qi

So the first round of the CBA playoffs are going on right now. Zhou's team is up 2-1 in best of 5 series. His team had the best regular season record of 32-6 and is the #1 seed. He had an ankle injury in game 2 and did not play in game 3 yesterday. One of his teammates is former NBA player Andray Blatche.
Qi's stats this year: 15.7 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 2.2 bpg (#2 in CBA) 1.1 spg in 31.3 mpg shooting 56.6% fg, 35% on threes and 71% ft
So the question is can the Rockets bring him here for the NBA playoffs? Before we drafted him in June 2016 "Zhou’s representation in China and the U.S. secured a buyout that will allow him out of his contract at the conclusion of next season for the maximum league mandated amount permitted, which is $650,000"
So technically once his team is eliminated or wins the championship that is the conclusion of the CBA season and we should be able to bring him here, right?
In baseball, rookies get called up at the end of the season all the time but I know it's a bit rare for NBA draft picks. We could use his shot blocking and rebounding and it would get him a head start for 2017-18 season.

I wouldn't play him over Harrell, so there's no spot for him on the roster. Capela looks like a stick figure out there at 240lbs. I can't imagine how much of a defensive liability Qi would be at 210lbs. It would benefit everyone to get him out of China ASAP, so he can start training for the NBA. However, I doubt he even puts on a Rockets jersey. He's the 'ol 2 years away from being 2 years away to being ready.

I like Zhou Qi but he's not going to play any time soon. He need a summer in Houston, which he will probably get this summer, then a year in the D league then hopefully he can be a low end rotation guy the next year. Bringing him in mid season doesn't do much

You know that Jimmy Fredette is averaging close to 40 ppg with 8 rpg in the CBA right?

It's very different for a big and a guard in the CBA though. Guards always dominate like that in the CBA, bigs don't

i'm not saying make him a starter or anything. we're probably going to sign him in the offseason anyway so why not get a couple months extra time?

If we have a roster spot open I wouldn't mind bringing him over just so that he can start acclimating to the NBA climate. I don't see him getting playing time this season (I'd rather see Onauku if we're going to play a rookie).
But yes, I think that they can bring him over after the CBA season is finished.

Reason I wouldn't is because it would burn one of his cheap 3 years before hitting RFA. If he works out and is good they would only have 2 years before he hits RFA

Shouldn't bring him over this off-season. At this state, he's going to need at least a year in the D-league, which I doubt he'd be interested in. He's very fluid and reminds of a poor man's Porzingis but still needs to work on his core strength to be able to compete with some of the big men here. If we're to bring him over this offseason, I bet it's solely due to Les Alexander's marketing agenda. Imo he needs another year or two.

What if some team in Europe gives him a contract and we end up with another Llull situation? He already negotiated his buyout so I don't see why bringing him over on a 2nd rounder contract is a big deal. We lost our first round pick to get lou Williams so qi could be our only rookie next season.
