Nene: Bring back the big man!

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Fri Jun 30, 2017 3:06 pm

Last season in what was an underrated move at the time, Houston brought in the veteran big man, Nene, on a vet's minimum contract.

The question now is how much will it take to get Nene back into the fold? I'm assuming that if he wants to come back then his deal may come later after other moves have been made.

I cannot imagine that after last season the vet's minimum will work. How much will Nene get paid?

No idea what it would take but I would love to see him back. He was great for us last year and would provide much needed front court depth and veteran experience. Right now all we have up front is Swiss Dream and...Spaceman? Ariza?

Maybe he would settle for minimum to have the luxury of playing one more year on the Showtime Rockets.

Make it so!

He doesn't have to take the minimum or any of the exceptions, they have his non-bird rights and can offer 125% of his last contract, so $3.4-ish million. That's a little on the cheaper side for him, but it seems like he hasn't left the Toyota center since the season ended and Morey referenced him as a core piece. I'd be surprised if he didn't end up taking $3.4 mil, and I'd be shocked if he didn't come back

I would like to see him back for as less $ as possible. If he goes elsewhere, i think Rockets should take a chance on Larry Sanders. Have a full summer of Larry. I still believe in him.

4 years seem kind of long for his age
I guess he earned it last season playing for veteran minimum
this is like his big bonus check
welcome back big fella

Non bird, as I thought. Both BAE and MLE intact. Hopefully the last year or two aren't fully guaranteed, but it's still a cheap deal regardless

They didn't waste any time!

Happy to have the big guy locked up and secured for the next few seasons. Keep that big man rotation going.

4-yr, $15m deal. That's a little less than $4m per year which is chump change considering how the average scrub like Patty Mills gets over $10m a year.

Still need a 3rd center to replace Harrell and a back up 4 to replace Dekker. Speights?
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Is Onuaku ready? How about Zhou Qi?

What kind of money do you think Speights would cost? I'm all for more vets.

I think Onuaku will be a fine third center, but I'm high on his backup center upside

Nenes deal is actually three years 11 million. Rockets could not offer a 4th year due to the over 38 rule

Well I don't blame him. The offer he agreed to had been pulled out in front of him. How on Earth did no one in the front office notice Nene turns 38 before the last year

Ya I can't blame the big fella either, I just hope he doesn't decide to go elsewhere now for more $, which surely some team will offer him?

Seems unlike Morey to overlook something like this. Hopefully they work it out, he did seem quite happy being here and we definitely need him.

Thank God he took the same deal minus the fourth year. Saves the Rockets lots of flexibility
