Roster down to 15

Post#1 » by TMU » Sat Oct 14, 2017 4:15 am

http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/article/Rockets-reduce-roster-to-15-players-12276788.php

The Rockets on Friday reduced their roster to before Monday's deadline to set the regular-season rosters, releasing guards Isaiah Taylor and George de Paula, and forwards Tim Quarterman and Chris Johnson.

They later signed free agent forward Danuel House Jr., a former Fort Bend Hightower player, a move that will give them their G League rights if they cut him because he had not been with another team in training camp.

Guard Demetrius Jackson is on a two-way contract to play with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and does not count against the team's limit of 15 players.

The moves on Friday assured roster spots for developmental players Troy Williams, Cameron Oliver and Chinanu Onuaku, though each was expected to be on the final roster.

This is what the roster looks like:

PG: Paul/Brown
SG: Harden/Gordon
SF: Ariza/Tucker/Williams
PF: Anderson/Behemoth/Black/Joe Chee/Oliver
C: Capela/Nene/Onuaku

Off to Minors: Jackson/House Jr.

Should consider adding another guard and send one of the PFs to relieve Paul, Harden and Gordon from heavy minutes.

Surprised and sad to see Taylor get cut. I liked him a whole lot more than Onuaku. Beijg guaranteed the next two years probably saved nanu

Ditto.
Fully expected (hoped) Isaiah Taylor would make the cut.

House Jr (signed just for D League rights) and Cam Oliver :( were waived today. Down to 14 players. Guessing they're going to try to bring in an injury insurance point guard

Damn, I liked Oliver. Maybe he'll still end up with the Vipers.

No, a new CBA rule prevents that. If someone gets a guarantee > $50k he cannot be waived and join your D League team/ come back on a two way deal. Prevented a loophole where teams would sign guys and give them guarantees just to acquire D League rights from other teams, who didn't have the flexibility to give them a guarantee. Sadly, he's gone. That broken hand couldn't have come at a worse time for him.

Deron Williams?
Gary Payton II?
Isaiah Canaan?
Semaj Christon?
Ronnie Price?
Beno Udrih?
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Canaan would be my pick. Williams is the best but he's a locker room headache I'd rather not add to the mix. Christon and Price aren't NBA guys imo. Taylor was much better than Payton. Udrih is a possibility. Might trade a future second for someone about to be cut or something.

They could also resign Taylor with a pushed back guarantee date. His contract would've guaranteed yesterday if not cut

I actually like Chris Johnson, but there isn't any minute for him playing behind Ariza, Harden, Gordon, Tucker, Mbah a Moue, Williams (all can play SF)

Wade Baldwin just got waived by Memphis. Had a pretty bad shooting rookie season but he was a mid first rounder just a year ago. He was a good shooter in college though and has good size for a point guard.

Jameer Nelson going to be waived for the Nuggets to sign RJ. Would be excellent short term solution

Jameer just waived today. We'll see if the Rockets show interest in 2 days when he clears, with an open spot and Chris hobbling a little

Would makes sense, especially since they showed passing interest a few seasons ago.

Jameer would be an excellent fit if we could get him for the vet minimum.
