Good time to be a Houston Rockets fan!

Let me ask you...what do you like about being a Houston Rockets fan so far this season?

Clever wordplay is not necessary, but welcome.

Christopher of House Paul.

I still can’t believe he’s a Rocket.

It's almost like that Morey guy knew something years ago.

I mean. Assuming that "hey guys do you think we would be better if we got the best PG in the league for the last decade" qualifies as any sort of arcane knowledge.

Morey is a genius. Can't wait to see how far this team can go this season.

I won't call Morey a genius
Harden did ask for help at PG 2 years ago but Morey got him Ty Lawson
CP3 requested trade to Houston so it wasn't really Morey
Tucker and LMAM came here mainly because of CP3
Morey is smart but he doesn't deserve all the credit

Since the D-Morey era, this team has never had a sub-.500 season, missed the playoffs in only 3/10 seasons (the West has always been more competitive than the East), and has never had a scrub as head coach (other than Bickerstaff who was an interim anyway). Still haven't won anything, but at least this team has been good and consistent for the most part over the past decade or so. As I have gotten older, I realize the less stressed I'm about this team, the better it has gotten. I'm just appreciating every moment of this season. This year could be truly special.

Although that's true, I think Morey does deserve a lot of credit or even most of the credit. As TMU mentioned, we haven't been below .500 in 10 seasons and only missed the playoffs 3 times. I don't think that's a coincidence, especially with all the roster turnover over the past few seasons. Morey also seems to find role players that perfectly compliment each other and he always does what it takes for the team to be competitive. To say that he's a basketball genius is not so far-fetched imo. Especially compared to all the terrible GM's we have nowadays.

Love Morey and agree with pretty much everything in this thread, but I'd like to point out:

1. Morey doesn't draft all that well
2. He almost signed Bosh and Parsons to max contracts in the same summer. Had Pat Riley not swooped in at the last second, then the trajectory of Harden's early years with the Rockets would look much different

Yup, he got lucky a few times.
If NBA didn't veto CP3 to Lakers deal we would've end up with Pau Gasol and no Harden.
If Bosh didn't go back to Miami.
If Melo decided to sign here.
If Knicks new GM didn't pull back on Melo trade.

Yeah, Morey drafted good players like Capela, Parsons, Brooks (for few seasons), Morris (still alright), but there are also lot of scrubs I don't remember their names. Donte Greene right?

I've been a Morey fanboy since .. I don't even know.
A while.

Even I wouldn't call him a "basketball genius", though. I think he's just a numbers genius. He manages his salary numbers well. He understands basic basketball efficiency well. He seems to have learned to recognize what he doesn't know and stay away from it or get advice from the right people.

Most importantly, he's apparently a poker wizard, cause everything above aside, you tip your hand at the wrong time and you're still losing.

The annual Eating Crow thread has been up on the Trades & Transactions board for a few days now.

I don’t think that I’ve seen a single person admit that Harden & Paul are working better than they thought.

I guess we imagined all of the “I don’t know about fit” comments this past summer & autumn.

two big thumbs up for Harden and CP3 because they wanted to work
I guess both now it's too tired to make plays for every possessions
now they can both take turn

Last year we were 38-17 at game 55 this year 42-13 so 4 games is good but not an astronomical improvement over last year.

The playoffs is what's important so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Before last year's all star break:
Clint Capela missed 15 games
Pat Beverley missed 14 games
Eric Gordon missed 4
Ryan Anderson missed 3
Nene was DNP in10 games

This year, Capella missed 5 games
Harden missed 7
Ariza missed 11
Paul missed 18
Mbah missed 17
I haven't tracked Nene, but so far he's sat out 17 games.

So we've had 10% improvement with more injuries.
10% improvement on a 55 win season is a 61 win season. I'll take that any year.
You are right about waiting for the playoffs. Wins are just for homecourt and to indicate likelihood of odds.
Looking good so far, though. If we're healthy come playoff time, especially with Brandon Wright, we might even be favored.

Harden (7) and CP3 (18) combined to miss nearly as many games as Bev and Clint.
Clint has missed 5 games.
Ariza has missed 11 and counting.
Ryan has missed 2
Gordon missed 5
LMAM missed 17
Nene has had 17 with combined resting and injuries.

This season is much much worse, even if it were just CP3 and Harden missing so much time because they're so much more important players
