As long as their not breaking the law, I normally don't care about the personal lives of players. But this story intrigued me, as it seems to a lot of people judging by the thread on the Orlando board, because Howard is a guy who has made his faith a large part of his public persona. He even said prior to his rookie season he made some very controversial remarks about a cross on the NBA logo.

At this point I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this story. He is only 22 so I don't want to start yelling hypocrite. But he is someone whose made his faith an awfully large part of his public persona, and I am someone who really doesn't appreciate public displays of religion.

His comments about putting a cross on the NBA logo, the fact that he got pregnant by someone who is by all indications a good bit older than him, the fact that he apparently was helping out some porn star. Putting all oft hese things together, it seems like the most proper adjective for Dwight is naive. And that's probably why I'm witholding the bashing.

i knew his image was too good to be true. seriously, if he wasn't so high and mighty about things before and touting his personal beliefs, i probably wouldn't think twice about it. but yeah.. this screams of hypocrisy.. especially the whole "...i'd like to keep my personal life personal." but religious people will say that being a christian is not about being perfect. that's bullet-proof logic right there, folks.

Look at Eddy Curry. He had a number of children before he turned 21 but he recently married the mother of most of them.

I understand that, but he was supposed to be the one who wasn't supposed to fall into this "trap" because of his spiritual background.

Like I said, as long as athletes don't break the law I don't really care about their personal lives. The only reason this story intrigued me at all, is because of Dwight and his faith.

I don't care who you are, we all go against stuff we believe in if its spiritual or not. We all screw up, and lets be honest.. there isn't much harder to resist than a good looking woman. We shouldn't judge peoples mistakes because then people will be more likely to judge us by ours. Better to love on folks and help pick them up when they mess up.

Sure. Their are probably a number of players who are religous, but other than Dwight very few make it a large part of their public persona. If your going to do that, you have to be prepared to be called on it if you go against some of the basic tenants of your faith.

Of course people are going to call him out on it, but that doesn't make it the right thing for people to do.

Not lying is one of the ten commandments too, but I doubt people would really make a big deal about it if he got caught in one. The consequences of his action in this world seem worse to most, but its the same result in the spiritual world he believes in. A lie or fornication both are worth Hell in the eyes of the Lord. Fortunately to those who believe, their price has already been paid. For those who don't then I guess they'll stick with thinking this ones worse, but if they are going to call the man out on his faith they should probably do it by its terms and make a big deal about every sin he commits because they are all worthy of the same punishment.

I'm not really interested in getting into a biblical argument, but in the eyes of society lying and fornication are not the same.

But again, this all has to do with the fact that he made this a large part of his public persona. That he put himself on this pedastil, that he expressed interest in jamming his religous beliefs down the throat of others.

The one thing I hope more than anything is that he does what he says and keeps his private life private.

In my eyes, lying can be worse. It's hard to hurt more than a few people with fornication, you can hurt millions with a good lie, but that's me. Still gotta second what SoundQuality said.

I don't claim to know what all he's said, it's fine that you don't like him for it, it's to be expected, but he's not a hypocrite for being fallable.

I simply don't want to get into a biblical argument. I'm fine with other areas.

Obviously it depends on the lie and my statement was definitely too general. But the type of lie a basketball player can make is probably not too harmful.

Its not even that I do or don't like him. My feelings are very conflicted. The kid is a hypocrite look up the definition of the word and its pretty clear he falls into it. But he is a kid and he's gonna make mistakes. Like I said, I hope that he now drops the preachy stuff and stops trying to jam his religous views down others' throats.

this definetly hurts dwight in a lot of ways, and he well knows it. I have grown to love him and his game. The guy has steadily won me over, however, ive been seeing little flags come up throughout the past couple of years and it's worried me. I'm not about to throw any stones at the kid, I've made my share of mistakes and miscues. I've blown it big time, am I saying I'm giving him a pass, no I am not. Sin is a sin, and he needs to be called on it. However I am not going to blast him because he blew it. He's doing the right thing about embracing the fact that he has a child and he's a dad. Be responsible, and step up. But also I expect an apology to the community for living an unrighteous life. If he is indeed still walking with Christ, still claiming to be an ambassador for the game, a wholesome godly believer playing professional ball, then I half expect him to do the right thing. Step up young man and do the right thing. You are in the limelight and you can still glorify the Lord in your failing. There is nothing wrong in that. I believe the community at large will embrace him for it even the more.

basically what I am saying is be a man after God's own heart. For those of you who are familiar with the life of King David, you know what I'm saying here.
