I think it's safe to say that Scola is a couple notches above Howard in everyway to what he brings to Houston other than not being as good a midrange shooter? The guy gets after the lose balls better and gives that extra effort an aging Juwan Howard couldn't give. If Juwan was still here there would be no room for him in the rotation anyways. What do you guys think?

its why i wish van gundy kinda stayed with our team. if we had everything the exact same as last year but we also had scola and landry, there is no way we woulda lost to utah in game 7. absolutely no way. those guys woulda grabbed the boards we needed.

Maybe. Maybe not. But there was no way we were beating GState last year or ever going to be a true contender under JVG IMO.

Everyone always laughs at his offense and claims it was going to hold us back.

I always point out how enjoyable the team was to watch offensively in the latter half of 2004-2005. He wasn't inept.

we would have beaten Golden State for sure
without a doubt in my mind
we may have alot of trouble with them, but if tmac and the rockets got past the first round last year, they (especially tmac) would have gotten that gorilla of their backs, and woulda been so much more comfortable on the court.
i dont know if tmac will ever get past the first round as a leader, but if he does he will tear it up in the second round

Hitting that midrange shot is CRITICAL given the way people like to guard Yao, double with both big men and dare the PF to shoot. If he can't hit that jumper we might as well put Chuck out there for more defense. Juwan could hit it consistently and was a better post player last year than Scola. Juwan didn't try very hard on defense, but Scola compensates by committing bad fouls.

Scola hustles, sure, but so do Hayes and Ryan Bowen, and everyone wanted them yanked from the starting lineup or off the team in the case of Bowen. His hustle just doesn't make up for the fact that Juwan did the job offensively and Scola hasn't consistently done it.

I think you are overrating Juwan and underrating Scola. Not only does Scola hustle but he DOES have a midrange jumper. He's not as consistent as Juwan, but shooting 50% from the field is okay by me. He is in a little three game slump, but if you watch some games, you can see that not only is Scola the better player than Juwan was last year, but that he is also the better fit for this team (you mention midrange jumper + playing with Yao = critical... but Yao was out for like 35 games last year). And he's only a rookie and should be expected to improve as his NBA career progresses.

In other news, Yao is pretty good.

Yeah I think Scola is playing better than what Juwan did in his time with the Rockets--though every-time Yao went down he automatically became a near 17 point per game scorer, but it's not like we traded Juwan for Scola, we traded James for him and I'd do a reverse on that trade any day.

well atleast howard has been consistently playing for us before, unlike james who's been rotting on the bench.

Scola is shooting much better than Howard,

last year Howard had the worst shooting season with the Houston Rockets and considering his age Scola has a far greater upside than Howard

everyone who read my comments at CF.net knows that I praised and loved Howard, but you cant compare him to Scola, they might be dribbling- wise the same, but Scola over Howard anyday!

I'd rather have Scola even now. He's in a slump sure but so was Howard last season, and Scola is better than Howard at everything else other than the 18 footer. Of course Howard was traded for James though and rather have Howard in that scenario as our frontcourt is much thinner than our backcourt. Plus Howard was a great locker room guy.

Of course with the way Landry is looking lately it may be a moot point.

I'm pretty sure Morey regrets the Howard trade.

Howard for James was the absolute worst move of the offseason. At least Howard would've willingly accepted his spot at the end of the bench, and provided some leadership and veteran presence while the team was losing its way. James, on the other hand, was the biggest culprit responsible for killing the Rockets earlier on and is probably the reason why the Rockets aren't in the playoff picture today.

That PF spot is full Landry is a beast, Hayes does his thing and Scola has the complete package. The Rockets are a spoiled team. The best international players come through here and plus Bonzi Wells at his best and the role players seem to be capable everyday if they put to motion their desire. This is a spoiled team that should win it all.
