Oh wow, those are some crazy statistics, just shows you that the problem isn't the Yao/Tmac combo, they play terrific together.

Key stat in that list: Just Yao, 18-24

Debunks the 11-40 stat that the TOF's like to bring out. It's the 1-22 without both that is really bad, but that's to be expected.

It pretty much shows what you'd expect, the team is worse with either or both stars out and best when both are in.

Some trends that you see is that each year the team got better when both were healthy until this year. 04/05 with a .632 winning %, 05/06 with .678, and 06/07 with .732. It makes you wonder what JVG could've done with the roster this year.

Still, I like the direction the team is going. We have more youth, athleticism and depth compared to prior years. There's more of a balance offensively with the role players showing they can play in Adelman's system and produce when one of the stars is out or on the bench. There won't be anymore playoff games where the bench fails to score a single point. Sometimes you just have to take a step back (in the reg. season) to move forward (in the playoffs).

Not to hate on JVG, but our rookies wouldn't be playing well AT ALL, (they wouldn't get any PT, except for MAYBE Scola), and Hayes and Alston would both be playing around 30 minutes, with MJ the backup and Bonzi, Brooks, Landry, and Novak clicking their heels. Mutombo would also be getting serious minutes.

Adelman's style will work out better for us in the long run, methinks.

Luther Head made the Rookie/Sophomore game twice under JVG. JVG played Hayes a ton. He gave John Lucas some minutes. The JVG not playing rookies is a myth.

Nothing too surprising there, lack of talent around McGrady and Yao have been the problem the past couple years, though McGrady and Yao have disappointed to some extent in some of our failures--obviously it being a team game.

As I have stated many times before, those stats don't mean much. You have to take the whole roster into consideration. i.e. who's the backup?
I will give you extreme examples,
If you have LBJ backup TMac, apparently you won't lose a thing if TMac's not playing. If you have D12 backup Yao, same thing.(or maybe not but you see what I mean)

If you have nobody else capable of playing point guard except Alston, apparently Alston is irreplaceable on your roster. Go figure.

Bonzi and Snyder were injured at the same time last season when TMac was down. That's actually the main reason Rockets didn't play well during that stretch. This year Rockets played well when TMac went down was mainly because we have depth at that position compare to last season.

Rockets played well without Yao last season was mainly because Deke played hugel. If it was Jake instead of Deke, would the outcome have been the same?

IMO those stats only show your team depth at certain position, nothing else.

Check out this blog post. It has the stats and % of offense derived from T-Mac & Yao when either were out for this season and last. It really shows how much more balanced offensively we've become.

never fear little buddy its ok you wanted the rockets to lose to utah. things have changd this year n yao is unquestunably the man for houston but is that saying much at this point. mcgrdy is uselss i hope hes traded.
