OT: Greg Popovich is Scared & Wines about Memphis Trade?

Post#1 » by CuttingEdge » Sat Feb 9, 2008 9:05 pm

I thought this guy was smarter than that and this wining about how unfair a trade is because his Spurs might not ever be able to win it all again is uncharacteristic of a true winner. Why did Greg Popovich suddenly showcase himself as a Pussy? This guy is supposed to be the best coach in the NBA or at least in the top 3? Every time we play the Spurs, I'm gonna think about their Pussy Coach and the team loses credibility with me all together.

The Grizzlies' moron coach challenged the league to criticize the deal and I don't see any wrongdoing for him speaking the truth... I am pretty sure there are other GMs and coaches that are upset about this trade, especially those who are in the same division as the Lakers.

Pop is known to criticize on these types of trades. That is Pop, who cares though? I doesn't matter what people think the Lakers are going to to do, what Memphis has done. It's done now so we should all just see the results once they come. Personally, my opinion is that the Lakers will not win a championship with that group of guys.

I am scared too. They are the best team out there once Bynum comes back. Unless Kidd ends up on Dallas or us I don't see a team in the West beating LA. Now they won't beat Boston if they meet in the Finals. Not with KG taking a month off in the middle of the season to get ready.

I don't think Pop said anything about being scared.

It's a very legitimate gripe. People gripe in fantasy leagues when someone makes an idiotic trade with someone else and tilts the field. Why wouldn't you gripe about it when hundreds of millions of dollars are at play? The NBA as a whole griped about Donald Sterling for years (although he's one of my favorite owners in theory, perhaps not in practice) for constantly shipping out talent at bargain basement prices so he wouldn't have to pay for it. This is worse than that by far, at least other teams ended up paying for Sterling's generosity, even if it was discounted. L.A. spent 2 first round picks to dump an inane (expiring) contract and pick up an all-star. Sure everyone is mad in part because they wish they'd done it, but there's also the fact that if you have very many trades like this, it's bad for the league.

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said the move was purely a basketball decision and not a way to cut costs to make the team more attractive to prospective buyers. The Grizzlies were 13-33 when they traded Gasol, the franchise leader in 12 statistical categories.

How much fun would it be to see the Grizz sold in the offseason after that?

He just said that the trade was beyond comprehension . He's not whining or scared. Just speaking the truth.

Your an idiot if you would have listened to what he said. You would know that he was saying David Stern stuck it to every team in the NBA with this trade. Stern knows the NBA is going down fast. So he talks Memphis in giving up Gasol for crap. Now he has what he wants CELTICS and LAKERS

No waaay! You're talking like the NBA might be rigged! What do you think it is, professional wrestling?

David Stern is an upstanding fellow who would sooner smear his mother's face with boiling tar than rig a multibillion dollar sports league!

Disclaimer: if prior mentioned smearing did happen to occur, there is absolutely no chance that the gooey remains would be broken up and sold to Russell Stover's to be marketed as a specialty Valentine's Day line of chocolates - "This Valentine's Day, give that special woman in your life what she really deserves. [The tar-boiled, chocolate-looking, fractured head of Mama Stern]"

Did you happen to hear Sterns interview on the Colon Cowherd show this week. if you did what happened when Cowhern asked him about Kobe wanting to be traded.HE said he talked to Kobe and started studdering when Cowherd tried to push him for more info about his talk with Kobe. He wasn't going to tell Cowherd that he told Kobe to relax and you'll get what you need to win.

sounds like the Spurs coach is upset with the Lakers "steal", should have got to em quicker pops........ I am happy for the Lakers , I am in intrigued on how Bynum will rebound from his injury an finish the season and the playoffs. The Lakers are definitely title contenders with him in the mix.

:dontknow:

I guess it all comes down to whether you like the league to be lopsided in favor of a few teams, or whether you have an NFL-like fetish for achieving parity. Some people like to root for the clear favorite, some people like to watch a hard-fought game between two good/great evenly-matched teams. I have no idea which of those two groups is the larger, but it would seem that even the people who like rooting for dominators/fantasy team replicas should have no problem acknowledging that a trade so lopsided it borders on cheating/fixing can't be a good thing. Houston and Dallas (trying to do something other than insult dallas nearly makes me ill) fans should disagree with this trade more than anyone after our last 2 playoff exits and dallas' you-fouled-dwyane-again loss to Miami in the finals.

Oddly enough, I don't hate the Yankees. Go figure.

i understand his complaint. the hawks basically gave rasheed wallace to the pistons a couple years ago. the only difference is this won't net the lakers a title as they're still not going to beat the mavs, spurs, or hornets in 7 games.
