Aldridge Reports Houston Interested in Artest

David Aldridge on NBATV had a trade talk session with the NBATV and discussed the Kidd, Shaq, and Gasol trades.
The next topic was Jermaine, then Ron. And Denver has made an interest bid for Artest--but the much publicly known Kleiza has been the dealbreaker.
Similar though in Houston. He stated that the Rockets have quitely inquired about players and Artest is one of thier targets. The problem is that the Kings want Aaron Brooks, and the Rockets are hesistant on sending him in any package at this stage.

Interesting... so the real question is: would you rather have Artest or Brooks?
I'll be honest with you, I don't have an answer. Artest spells risk and trouble, but he can be rewarding if his negativity subsides... We also have a notorious history of giving up young talents who end up being good for other teams.
I am not sure what will be best for the team.

I think we'd have to pull the trigger. Aren't we a win now team? If there's a way to get a player of Artest's caliber without giving up McGrady, Yao and Battier, then by all means we have to do the deal. I'd even give up Battier for him.
Please bring Artest to Houston, he also has played under Adelman and played very well.

Another thing to consider. Artest also has 2 years left (1 being a player option) in his contract. Whatever the reason may be, he can choose to opt out in his 2nd year.

Except that this year is the first year of the two remaining years. Next year is the player option. I pointed out before that if we do get him, unless we win big (and very likely not even then), we're probably looking at renting Artest for this season only.

The question is what else is going with Brooks, I think that's the deciding factor.

Yes, that's what I meant...
I guess it depends on Morey's ability to judge whether or not Brooks can be a major force to this team next year...

Not if you're looking at matching salaries. 6.6 is within 25% of 7.8. I wouldn't be surprised if more draft picks were involved though.

Thank you. Artest won't stick around--we saw how much impact Peja made in Indiana when he was there before he was a UFA.

Yes of course, the salaries have to match.
If we give up James as well, then we'll have to find a backup for Alston.
