Hm. Marion makes 16.5 this year and 17.1 next year.
Hm.
Man, I would LOVE to have Marion on this team, from a skills standpoint, and his contract expires next year. He'd be a better fit than Artest, bring more skills to the table, be generally "sane", be a great finisher on the break, etc, etc.
Then there was this time I was dating this really cute cheerleader from California. We would have a great time, get along great most of the time, have a ton of fun, really click, except any time I said anything even remotely bad, slightly interpretable as slightly bad, or even paused for a second in a conversation that might possibly involve her, she would get deeply offended because she had absolutely NO self esteem. Then she would sulk, gripe and cop an attitude with me for the rest of the day, take it out on everyone else, eat a big meal, go to the bathroom and throw it up, smoke a pack and a half of cigarettes and maybe wash it down a lot of tequilla.
Needless to say, I wasn't very interested in her anymore after a couple months of putting up with that at least once a week.
Also we'd have a hard time putting together a bundle that could match to 12.75 million that's going to interest Miami in any way. I guarantee you they don't want Battier for what's currently a rebuilding effort any more than the Kings do. Battier's the kind of guy you want to get either through draft, or when you're a piece or two away - not when you're 6 pieces away - which with the Heat is being generous. So then you're looking at Alston, who we aren't dealing either. After that, it's pretty well impossible to match his salary without either McGrady or including the entire rest of the team.

Amel, I have 3 words for you.
Trade Checker.
This trade is not possible without Battier or Alston. Nice as it would be, there is a 0% chance of it happening.
