#1 Offseason Priority?

I know I know...there are still 29 games left, and we're still in the playoff race. I know, and I'm not giving up. However I was reading on the General NBA Discussion Board, and there's a thread titled, "How Much Would Your Team Pay Carl Landry?" The thread is in its baby stages right now, but one poster has already said he'd give Landry the MLE, and another poster said he'd offer something close to 10 mil (although that's a bit ridiculous). The bottom line is that Carl Landry is no longer a secret, and we shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking that the rest of the NBA doesn't know who he is. He's going to be a RFA this season, so we can still match anything he's offered, but if the price gets too high do you think we should match regardless?
Personally, I think making sure that Carl Landry is a Houston Rocket for years to come is our #1 priority. I'm very happy with our team right now, and our window of opportunity is bigger than teams like Dallas and Phoenix, so we could possibly be among the consistent elite if we maintain this level of play. I think we have a good expiring contract in Jackson, and we're still missing a few minor pieces (possibly backup PG, and backup C because Mutombo can't play like this every year). However, I think re-signing Carl Landry is an ABSOLUTE MUST for our team this offseason. He's going to get some big bucks thrown his way, and this is going to be one of those times where we can't cheap and need to cough up some money if we want to remain successful.
Thoughts?

1. Landry, yes match at any cost, if Scola was 23 then it wouldn't be so important
2. Draft a center
3. Fire Drexler

IMO we match any offer , even full MLE.
Teams can't offer him mo0re money than the MLE because he is resricted and thats the most we can offer.
I still doubt anyone will offer him the MLE , they will know we will match and Landry will still not be a top priority for teams in a very strong free agents class.
I am not worried at all we won't be able to keep Landry.
I hope we can sign him with the Bi Anuual exception , but even if we need to use the MLE I won't be upset.

Great job on the general forum guys. CL is a top 10 PF to say the least already. And other teams know this but then again is Scola. We should keep both because both can play the 5, 4, and 3. We have 2 of the top ten 4s in the league, I have nothing to complain about.

I was backing up Drexler, but its getting really tired and boring..
but as I listen to others around the league, Drexler could be easily on ABC Sundays

1. Extend Landry's contract
2. Find good backup center in case Deke doesn't return.
3. Get Yao to switch from Reebok to Nike.

I think you guys are overrating Landry a bit much (and Scola too), he's not a top 10 PF in the L. He's a surprise for sure, but his flaws still remain. He is still undersized in both height and weight, has no post-game (and likely won't develop one given his size), has a somewhat unorthodox jumper, and is a rookie with not much upside.
Also realize he hasn't played much this season, and when he has played has in relatively limited minutes compared to a starter. I would be very surprised if he gets more than 5m a year, and see him more in the 3-4m range.

1. Sign Arenas
2. Sign Brand
3. Give Yao Robo legs
4. Sign Landry.
Seriously, though:
1. Sign Landry. If it takes the MLE, and he's healthy and playing strong at the end of the season, so be it.
2. Look for options to upgrade. BJ will be expiring, and I could definitely see us pursuing a Mike Miller type. We can definitely use more size, shot creating, and shooting.
3. At least inquire of the FAs. Call Artest, and Arenas and Brand if they opt out and see if any of them would be willing to play here.

No one's going to get landry. Either way, we're matching the full mle if they offer him that.

It'd be utterly ridiculous for GMs around the league to even consider giving him the MLE. He's a rookie for god's sake and if you give him that MLE, he'd be making more money than some of the more established sophomores and 3rd year players.
There's nothing to worry about with Hayes. We have no business using up the entire MLE because no GM will use up his MLE for the 2nd rounder who's been putting up those numbers simply because he fits in the Adelman system.
At most he's worth 3 mil, which is slightly more than a mid-lotto pick.

I don't think either is top 10 just yet but I think you are underrating Landry a bit. I believe he has a lot of upside and being undersized is only a problem if you let it be....Barkley was one of the best PF's and he wasn't exactly tall.

I thought I remembered the Rockets only signing Landry to a 1 year contract, which I was really surprised by that. Hoopshype lists that we currently have a team option on Landry for next season. If we do then we will definatley pick up that option. If not, then we will bring him back. Morey seems to be a smart GM and he traded for Landry for a reason. There is no way that we would let him go after hes been playing so well. The team loves him and so do the fans and I know Landry loves Houston. Who would want to play anywhere else?!?!?
Secondly, we need to re-sign Gerald Green. He shouldnt command anything crazy. He's bounced around the league and Im confident he wants to remain with the Rockets.
BRING BACK DEKE!!!
What do you think about this trade idea?
BJ, Head, 1st Round Pick for Mike Miller
Use the MLE on Diop?
PG: Alston, Francis, Brooks
SG: McGrady, Miller
C: Yao, Diop, Mutombo
SF: Battier, Green, Novak
PF: Scola, Landry, Hayes

Isn't francis expiring? or does he have a player option? ....I dont think we should use the entire MLE on Diop....maybe half on Diop and thats if jersey doesn't extend him....
Even with alston's good play as of late, i still have a feeling that we should get a better backup pg....not saying that i am unsatisfied with Bjax, just that he is old and injury prone.

I think getting a reliable backup C in case Mutombo doesn't return is more important then your #4
I agree with your first 3 though

It's good to know that the most anyone can offer him is the MLE. I was worried that re-signing him was going to have potential to completely screw our cap.
Does anyone know of any instances of teams throwing offers at guys just to make another team spend more?

What kind of money do you guys think Novak will get? Isn't he expiring? off to the Rio whatever vipers?
