Rockets win streak for dummies

Post#1 » by Ed_M » Fri Mar 7, 2008 5:33 am

I just came back from a long trip, where I was unable to follow the NBA and check the internet regularly.

When my trip started, the Rockets record was 22-19, they were the 10th best team in the West and seemed to be in serious danger of being out of the playoff picture.

I didn't follow them very closely, but I remember reading criticisms on Adelman's coaching and how the role players were not getting involved. T-Mac was also not doing great and many considered the Rockets a major disappointment, after the roster changes in the offseason.

I'd like to understand how the team got their act together and achieved this unexpected (and magnificent) win streak.

And what about Scola ?
I was always impressed by his play with the Argentina national team. He was having a decent rookie season, but nothing special. Did his performance got significantly better during the streak ?

It's everyone just coping together and playing well. It all started with defense and our offense took it from there. The ball movement was smooth and steady and we just shut teams down with our defense too. Some games came down to the end, while others were blow outs. Landry and Scola are beasts right now and on the streak. They have moved up in every Rookie Ranking that exists online and they are just playing terrific. Scola can do his one on one post moves and cut to the basket, while Landry is dunking powerfully and getting rebounds. Chuck Hayes lost his spot, but since Yao Ming suffered from his injury (fractured foot - out for the whole season), he has gotten more minutes. Mutombo has filled in and played well by blocking shots and getting rebounds. It's all a team effort.

Rockets have also scored 12pts or more than the opponents in the recent 8 consecutive games. The record is 10 games set by Wilt.
