Naysayers

Post#1 » by ripbud1 » Fri Mar 7, 2008 5:50 pm

Hi everyone. I just logged on yahoo and saw a subject about kenny smith not considering us as title contenders. i think the rockets are trying to shut them up by action instead of words. i am quite disappointed in a way but proud of the way our rockets are playing. i don't think it's tmac's team anymore. i think it's adelman's team instead. in the past, we would not even survive missing one of our superstars. but this year, we are doing so damn fine. i know our players know that they are a lot of naysayers out there who are counting them out, but they are still going to prove them wrong. i love the rockets this year and hopefully they will succeed!!!

I was surprised by the hold back by the TNT guys last night

no praise really, nothing that would make you feel good, I guess they are bigtime naysayers until Mac moves thru the 1st round

While I do think we're a very good team, all it's going to take is one team in the playoffs figuring out how to abuse our thin-with-yao-out-even-though-it's-still-very-good frontcourt for us to go down. Kenny's got a point. We are definitely undercredited and under-recognized though. Like vator and roosk pointed out last night though, LET us stay that way - less pressure and scrutiny, annoying though it may be, it perpetuates a quiet chip on our shoulder and helps keep everyone on a more even keel.

I'm so tired of hearing all the "can't get out of the first round!!!!" talk. It's monotonous and completely irrelevant and off-topic. I was squirming in my chair looking for the mute button when they did that collage last night.

Can't everyone shut up about that already (and no, that's not aimed specifically at you, Amel)? I forget which one it is, but there's a name for the logical fallacy that argument embodies.

Edit: While I don't think we're favorites or anything, I also don't think anyone else is a favorite. There are just TOO MANY good teams out there, but each of them has flaws and weaknesses and none is absolutely and without question heads and shoulders above the rest. It's going to be a haymaker-fest in the playoffs this year.

He's wrong. The Rockets is a legit title contender. Winning 17 games in a row is nothing to sneeze at.

Nope until we hold LeBron, Kobe, Chauncey and Dwight all to under 7 points, all within a week, while blowing out their teams by over 48 points each, we don't even have an outside shot as far as TNT goes.

The Spurs psyched me out earlier in the season, all making me think they'd finally gotten old, but now it looks like there's at least 6-8 teams with a legit shot. I had the Lakers as the frontrunner after Gasol until finding out that Lamar has a career-long habit of massively choking in crunch time (which only dropped them back in with the rest of the pack) and Bynum's behind schedule on rehab.

the way we play right now, we can beat any team, SA or Detroit

I do not doubt our spirit within the team

Maybe Denying the Antecedent? If A, then B. Not-A, therefore not-B. If we've gotten out the first round, then we are able to get out the first round. We have not gotten out the first round, therefore we are unable to get out the first round. That's my guess... (Just took a Intro to Philosophy exam this morning; I'm a little amped up with information that I'll forget in a week or so.)

I find it funny that every single year people count out the Spurs(you know who you are!) and every single year they remain the team to beat in the playoffs. If they don't get to the Finals they're always in the Conference Finals(pretty much). They've gotten old but they're still the team to beat IMO based on their defense, experience, and that 3-headed monster they have. The addition of Kurt Thomas only helps them when they face teams that have a good frountcourt. I've pretty much learned to never bet against them until they're all in wheelchairs screaming about the glory days of the NBA when they had to walk 10 miles in the snow to win a championship.

Anyways, I also agree the way we're playing RIGHT NOW we could beat anybody but I'd have to say that about a bunch of teams. I don't think any team in the West(mainly SA/LA/Dallas/Utah/NO/Houston) are a clear cut favorite and it's a toss up between Detroit/Boston/Cleveland in the East(though I still believe Detroit is the better team when it's all said and done).

I also also agree that it's good people keep writing us off, I've said that before. It lets us fly under the radar and maybe play with a bigger chip on our collective shoulder to shut them up and prove them wrong. Hey, it seems to be working so let's keep it going.

I really love the chemistry of this team and I hope they continue to do well and ultimately make Round Mound eat his words not unlike he has eaten quite a few twinkies. Kenny, well, who cares what he thinks. He rode Hakeem to 2 rings and thinks he's special because of it(I love you Kenny, but other than Game 1 against Orlando I don't remember you doing much more than being a decent role player along side 2 HOF badasses, so enjoy your free rings).

Nothing makes me giggle more though than Screamin'-Stephen A. Smith completely writing us off and saying our only chance is for us to give T-Mac the ball and get the hell out of the way. Classic. It always makes my day seeing him turn out to be completely wrong(pretty often) and look like a complete jackass(all the time).

Do these guys even watch the games? I submit that they do not.

Oh, one more thing. As long as Dancing Bunny is around we can hold our heads high with pride and dignity, no matter what the outcome. Rest easy and take care folks!
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

We are not title contenders. At the end of the day talent keep us down against the SA and LA. IMO those two teams are the ones we just have no shot of getting by. I think every other team is very beatable by our current roster...it would just be the greatest test in franchise history probably.

Still I would want to make the playoffs first. We got a tough set of games coming up. If we fair well..win more than we lose or split em...I think we will have sewn up a playoff spot. And then after that we can discuss what it is we can do when we get there.

Nobody has no shot of getting past a team. The question is do they have a good shot. We match up well with SA, but will probably have trouble with LA. I'm looking forward to the game on the 16th.

I would agree. I certainly can't say that we are title contenders, especially when we just lost one of our superstars.

But for Kenny Smith to say that DURING an 18 win streak? It just smacks of haterism.
