HOUSTON -- NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Wednesday the Rockets will sign free agent center Loren Woods, a seven footer, Thursday or Friday.

The Rockets are in need of adding depth to the front court with Yao Ming out for the year and Carl landry missing the last six games because of an injured knee.

Woods has played five years in the NBA. He played his first two seasons with Minnesota. Woods spent the 2003-2004 season with Miami and then the next two years with Toronto. Woods played this season in Europe with Efes Pilsen in Turkey. In 16 games there he averaged 8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks a game.

In five years in the NBA Woods, 7-2 and 260 pounds, averaged 2.6 points and 3.3 rebounds a game.

The Rockets had considered signing free agent center Dale Davis who worked out for Houston Monday but league sources told FOX the club decided to sign Woods.

Why because Davis is better at warming the bench?

We would have done better with Antonio Davis. 6'9" but better than Dale or Loren. More physical too.

My favorite youtube comment "when he grabs a rebound he semms too gay" Vator go look at the Youtube comments. It's really posted by "roccamason". How ironic. The guy doesn't jump much based on that reel.

With Yao out of the season, I knew that not having a backup C would be a problem down the stretch. :banghead:
Oh well, better late than never... Hope Loren Woods can play.

So will this be another 10 contract deal or for the rest of the season?

Perhaps Davis was too expense for a guy meant to be 6 more fouls.
