First Blood VI: Sly meets Scola

Kirk Snyder played hard. He played well. He demonstrated that there is a place for him in this league. But the impact of his performance on Wednesday will go far beyond his play on the floor. He did something no one has done as well this season. He hung a nickname on Luis Scola. It's perfect.

"He's like Rambo," Snyder said. "He never backs down from anything. He's so aggressive and he hustles all over the place. I think that nickname is perfect for him. They should start calling him the Rambo Man." Not the Rambo Man, just Rambo. Rambo Scola.

On a night the Rockets struggled to find any intensity, Scola was all over the place. He grabbed 18 rebounds on simple hustle as the Rockets got a season-high 58, outrebounding the Timberwolves by 20. It was not artful, but he scrapped his way to 18 points. He even got three steals.

Rookie wall? The guy is crashing through it....

he has been a perfect fit for the rockets, especially since he is starter, what annoys me is that he miss easy layups, he would score much more points every night, CAN'T HE DUNK!? he is not a thin and small guy.

Scola doesn't miss many easy layups, and he hits plenty of hard ones. You can miss dunks too, you know.

no, sometimes he miss some easy ones with no rivals around him, if you dunk alone u don't usually miss.

If Scola can dunk more he would. I think he's got tight calves ? He's actually probably a full NBA 6'10" and seemed slightly taller than Al Jefferson last night. Scola has the vertical of Yao Ming which is painful to acknowledge. But skill and timing prevails.

I rarely see him miss easy layups, and as I said before he makes a ton of difficult ones. The man is shooting 53%, he'd be shooting maybe 54 or 55% if he dunked these misses you're referring to, tops (and unlikely that he's missed enough to raise his percentage that much). Charles Oakley couldn't really dunk either, and dunks aren't 100% anyway.

Any player can be nitpicked. Kobe doesn't shoot but 46%, why doesn't he shoot 52% like Jordan did? Heck Jordan missed like 15 dunks the year he retired and wasn't a great defender then either, he should have been better.

But to avoid derailing (any more), Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off!

I called him Rambo when we first got him. Kirk Snyder stole that from me.
