The guy isn't an allstar. He is a role player. And role players focus on just one thing. Last year he was asked to defend Yao. He did a great job. The fact that he didn't score well or do anything else well is irrelevant. Thats not his job. He was asked to do something and he did it. Had it not been for Okur Yao would have killed the Jazz.
Okur did a great job defensively, but you have to understand, Okur isn't just a role player. The guy has been into the All-Star games, and is capable of hitting clutch shots. To be honest, look at his numbers. He was averaging about 18 points a game, and during a stretch in which Boozer got injured, he was single handedly leading the Jazz on a 8-0 win streak. The guy has played side by side with Garnett and Nowitzki. Us Jazz fans still have the great memory when Nowitzki and Okur have gone for 60+ points together against each other.
The guy was a beast. But since his daughter was born, he cut his goatee, and his numbers went catastrophically down averaging like 10 points a game and what not. But since the All-Star game this year, he has picked it up several notches, and this month along he was averaging 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Why you hear a lot of Jazzfanz really excited about this year is because Okur is back, and we can go through the Lakers easily if we have him running in all of his cilinders. Imagine if Kirilenko went back to All-Star level.
I think though, that Hayes has his numbers, and I expect him to have a very tough time with Hayes on the game. The difference is that throughout this season they have been working with him for an inside game. I don't know if he will be able to exploit hayes on that. Either way, I think Scola and Battier have to be the guys averaging 40 minutes a game if you want to have a chance.
I think that Bobby Jackson defensively too is gonna be key for your guyses stopping the engine going. If you cut Deron Williams, Utah Jazz are out of offensive flow, and Bobby Jackson has been able to play very well against the jazz with the hornets and I guess he can with you guyses.
